I must be the only one that though that Golden Onyx was impressive today? I kept on waiting for them to close down Buy and Sell and the only horse that showed the proper turn of foot was the winner..

No Hibs there are some of us that have been preaching this as the ''dark horse'' for a month or so...
My list has Chesalon/Jackson/Beach Beauty/Gold Onyx/English Garden ... i must be crazy, no De Kock horse...:

Hibs, just playing Devil's Advocate here. Gold Onyx (MR 101 as at yesterday) won comfortably by 1.25 lengths. To name a few July candidates in yesterday's race, Silver Flyer (MR 108 - 5.70 lengths behind), English Garden (MR 107 - 2.25) and Bulsara (MR 106 - 4.45), any ideas what his penalty could be? Note his odds were slashed from 150/1 to 20/1.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Some interesting July stats:-
Only four horses have ever won the Durban July Handicap back-to-back.
Campanajo (1897, 1898)
Corriecrian (1907, 1908)
Milesia Pride (1949, 1950)
El Picha (1999, 2000)
One other horse namely Pamphlet won twice in 1918 and 1920
Most wins by a trainer:
Sydney C. Laird - 7 : (1961, 1963, 1966, 1967, 1971, 1973, 1978)
Terence M. Millard - 6 : (1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990)
Trainer F. Murray won the race four years in a row from 1910 through 1913.
Most wins by a jockey:
4 : Harold "Tiger" Wright - (1942, 1947, 1949, 1955),
4 : Anton Marcus (1993, 2000, 2005, 2007)
4 : Anthony Delpech (1998, 2004, 2010, 2011)
3 : Bertie Hayden (1971, 1973, 1978),
3 : Felix Coetzee (1984, 1988, 1990)
2 winners of this race went on to race with success in the USA: the 1963 race was won by Colorado King who subsequently raced in California and won the 1964 Hollywood Gold Cup plus set a World Record for nine furlongs in winning the American Handicap at Hollywood Park Racetrack. and the 2002 winner, Ipi Tombe, became the first horse bred in Zimbabwe to ever win a race at historic Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

Even if he does, will they run him - does not appear to stay beyond 1600?
