What second chance was hansie given ? To open bat(ter) with a mountain slope ? :
.... seriously Kittycatoo, Cyril Naidoo is right at the top when it comes to undesirables in the racing game. You invite an animal into your home/stable.... you take responsibility...feed, water whatever... sort of an animal constitutional right.... no farking excuses..{takes seven deep breaths.... mutters 'be calm my violent soul'...}.. Andrew , Hansie and Jeff are capable of looking after themselves... not a horse locked in a stall. {meanders off to look for someone to offer some gratuitous violence}

Muhti, I not sure what you smoking... but rather trade it in for a stiff dop. Occasional brilliance ? {thinks...'that bears repeating'...} Occasional brilliance ? Striker is brilliant, a very gifted jockey... the part that you may have meant is he only occasionally chooses to show it. There I agree with you. I have no doubt in my mind that if Striker decided he wanted to win the jockey championship... he would do it as the trainers desperate for winners would be queuing up to book him ....
In my eyes he is one of the most gifted riders to have graced our turf....

Magi....you are refering to the Striker of years gone by.....yes pure talent and determination....in perspective he only shows a fraction of what he was once capable of.....his latsest stats in this new racing season are just a glimpse of the refurbished broom....wait until the golf courses start becoming lush and green...or he starts to have a demanding family again.....:

"Vintage Striker"
1) Rode for bigger, stronger yards.
2) Had the advantage of changing the way races were paced.
3) Had a goal to win the championship
4)Rode true tote favourites, no false ones (hence favourite/win combination stats)
Dont know where you've been or how much money you've lost by backing a jockey and not a horse with form but, he still managed to finish 4th on the log wtihout travelling and also facing an injury lay off in Dec.
p.s
Demanding family? As far as i can recall he was carded to race at the Vaal the morning of his son's arrival (so happened baby arrived the day before) He still rode 2 winners that meeting...

Kittycatoo, you dont have a clue what those horses went through. Dispicable to say the least. Just ask the vets that had to try fix them. By the way what 2nd chance did Jeff get?:S

Try and get a copy of the race and see for yourself. These are facts and not just tell tales.

No, facts are that even in that race (1987) July, Pedometer was never in the running to win it he was in fact contending to get up for second (if I can recall correctly Bush Telegraph won smartly) when Gitano ran on from behind, Lloyd not seeing Strydom coming put his hands down thus getting beat for second by Gitano .So no not quite fact. Putting your hands down and pulling up a horse are not the same and doing so when in contention for a place is not as severely punished as it would be for costing the horse a win.
