FNB UFS-Shimlas gave FNB Wits a tough introduction to the Varsity Cup with a resounding 61-7 victory in Johannesburg on Monday.

The FNB NWU-Pukke got their 2013 Varsity Cup campaing off to a dream start, beating the defending champion FNB UP-Tuks by 26-23 - despite a brave second-half comeback from the champs.

FNB UCT and FNB NMMU played to a hard-fought 5-5 draw in their 2013 Varsity Cup opener at a very windy Groote Schuur on Monday evening.

FNB Maties came from behind at a windy Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch to beat FNB UJ 29-8 in the opening Varsity Cup clash of 2013 on Monday.

Great talent. Stellenbosch was buzzing tonight. Stadium packed.

Big traction on the book for this tournament, I still fancy Tuks to bounce back and be up there. 9/2 seems generous after Monday's games. Either way each game is always actioned packed

There are only 5 teams I can see making the semi's, being Maties, Pukke, Tuks, UJ and Shimlas. Watch both Tuks and UJ bounce back after their away defeat. Shimlas were very impressive against Wits and could be the surprise package this year. I have a mate that plays lock for UJ so will be hoping the can go far, the wind did them no favours against Maties.

UCT delivered a very poor performance on the day, camped on the NMMU line for the entire second half but no points. Team has been decimated by Province and Stormers call ups over the past 2 years or so and they will need massive improvement to feature this year. I still remain hopeful though and some of returning injured players can lift the side.

As much as I hate to admit it I have to state that Maties will be hard to stop. They will take it at a canter and the trophy will be back in the Cape.

I watched a game the other night and enjoyed the vibe with the lovely lass talking to the fans, had it on mute but still enjoyed and the come back from Pretoria would make then worth a bet IMVHO

Tuks beating Ikeys this afternoon....jeez, I am a Blue Bull supporter, but just about half of the Tukkies team are contracted Blue Bull players. It was like the Baby Bokke (that won the world cup against NZ in 2012) playing Ikey's today. The only players from Ikeys with "experience" would be Bax & Kebble (big boy like his dad)

Well done Tukkies, but the Ikey's gave you a hard game.
