Fraud committed on a daily basis.............................(td)
12 years 5 months ago
It is becoming a regular occurence In the Totes especially in the Gold Circle region where the Tote Machine Clerk or Operator does not clear his/ her computer from the last bet taken with the result that if another punter goes to the terminal to place a bet or cash in a winning ticket, he ends up paying for the previous punters bets which were not cleared off the screen.
Unscrupulous terminal operators are targeting the elderly more often or those who have had too much to drink and when requested to clear the screens, responses range from " you should calculate your bets " or " I will calculate on my calculator " etc.
It is time that the operator Gold Circle puts firm measures in place where disciplanary warnings are issued and clear SIGNAGE warning punters to check that all computer screens are cleared before new bets are placed or tickets are cashed.
Like the signs that say ' Please check your tickets and change as errors cannot be rectified later ", similarly in these SAD times punters MUST be protected from the thieves behind the counters.(td)

Whatever amount that showed from the previous bet taken for example R20, the computer does not get cleared to show nil, the operator then takes the next customer"s bets and that R20 is "'added"' to that customer so he ends up paying for his bet and the previous bet, even though the previous bet was paid for! The teller then pockets the R20 which is taken from his/her float. Balancing at the end is fine as you print what your balance should be before you count, so you know quickly if you short or over and if the operator hasnt punted the money during the day and lost it! It can easily be added back to your float to make sure it balances! Really shit when you short LOL
Hope that doesnt confuse everyone

Very well said, Wagga Wagga, it's becoming " normal " to swindle punters usually a few minutes before the off when high volume of bets are placed and punters " in a rush " to get on.

Surely the system should clear 1 bet before another is made..Should not be done manually by teller..

its the same at petrol stations in the past....the bowser boy starts filling from the previous customers last fill...works very well if the previous fill was a small fill (assume R50.00)and your fill up is R200.00 more and over...and very very well when u said fill up the tank...they dont clear the tank...the bowser automatically supposed to clear itself, but thats only when the nozzle that fits in to tank,is put back correctly onto the bowser....happenned many many a time.

Len, ja imo it should work that way! This fraud also has it's downside! Example if a R20 bet is taken and machine is not cleared and the next customer happens to be one collecting a payout of say R100, by not clearing the machine you end up paying the person R120 instead of the correct amount which was R100. NOW the teller is short by 20

Not really, Wagga, if the machine shows an amount of R50-- to pay, which we are saying is the bet placed by the punter before you and you present a winning ticket to be cashed of say R100---, then the screen will show an amount of COLLECT R50---.
It facilitates a deduction off your winning ticket if you Buy bets for say R100-- and pay thru winning tickets as explained above.

Racing now really is CROOKED. With the Lotto you pay what you reqest, quickpick R10-- etc. and the casinos you will cash in your winnings but racing is leading the way in fraud.
I wonder if the Consumer Council can be of any assistance to punters in this regard?

Does not sound that it is well controlled ,teller can make a meal of this with no comebacks , ..
