The horse from John Macdonald yard was called Golden Khaya if memory serves me correctly. the horse that you are perhaps referring to is DADS ELECT which was one of his best.
Another great coup in the Cape was a horse called Millenium Diamond. stable companion Deheres Passion opened up 8/10 and drifted off the boards while Millenium Diamond was backed in to start 6/10 and won.

Due you remember a horse by the name of KIEV trained by Joe Joeseph ridden by O,Donogue in Bloemfontein a A division horse running in a maiden ist LAST second time in the middle third time easy by a good few lengths. Stake money was taken away but money that was made was a plenty.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

I'm open to correction here as I heard the story 2nd hand The horse was called Amphibion Drier stable they had a 8/10 shot in the race and he was 50/1 the horse had not run for about 18months but the jockey and 1 of his other mates(also a jockey) had secretly been working on the horse without the trainer knowing, amyway it was carrying no weight and the further they went the further the horse increased it's lead , but tragedy struck the horse collapsed 50m from the post.If the story is correct I'm sure titch will remember
