surely owners dont purchase horse to pull off coups??
Time and again we watch on TT ,post race interviews ,owners have been in the game as long as 20 years without a win.
Hypothetically,If 5 Trainers in a field of 10, tell their owners their horse is going to win, dead -heaters aside,3/4 of the Trainers will be considered misleading.
What about owner partnerships?are all the partners informed or just one sms to the nominee.Chinese whisper!!
Once betting becomes available to public,no restrictions. There are many astute punters that know this game well.

RG I agree with you 100%. That however was not the point I was making. What the owner does with the info is his baby. If he sleeps/kak punter thats his own problem. Then he can't shout foul. The info should be given to the owner first and that's all I'm saying. If he knows a week/day before hand he should be the first to receive the info and not the punter. It is after all the owners RIGHT !! So in principle we actually agree. No argument then.

I would think that if an owner bought horses to pull off coups he'd be out after a year!!

I didn't start buying horses to pull of betting coups and neither to get the best price in the market when the horse is ready to win. I race horses for the love of the sport and don't complain if my punt comes home either.
HOWEVER if I read or hear about the well being of my horses from a 3rd party and not my trainers FIRST! Then it will be a HUGE problem!

scotia,
you are correct in some respects regarding exchanges BUT 1stly flutter and when it became Betfair seeded markets and created positions. So manipulating prices is BAU (business as usual) for exchanges. They also have the software to match bets that suit themselves and many other ways of skimming off the top. Interbet will be no different. , the day it opened they must have seeded some markets themselves and after that and possibly being caught out once or twice they got their software slicker and now make more than the % cut.

Grooms, stable employees, jocks etc all talk so someone finding out your horses well being before the trainer has put you in the picture is inevitable.
When you really break it down the only reason it will be a huge problem is because of your ego and self entitlement. As long as there are bookies there will be market manipulations, cloak and dagger secrets etc, even Betfair cannot stop this. Anyway this topic has been flogged worse than Keiren Fallon flogging a nag he has punted!

Saksy just a question why is it about ego and self entitlement if you a small owner yet as punters we demand open book from trainers , jockeys and owners regarding their runners...

Sasky this has nothing to do with ego or self entitlement!
As I have stated (which you clearly missed the point!) I don't care about getting the best price in the market. I'm not in a business venture to make money, this my hobby which I enjoy.
But you are right about 1 thing this topic has been exhausted by people with very different views on this subject!

Len, I'm struggling to see why information about a horses well being is guarded with state secrecy. Why does there have to be a period where the owner has an advantage over the betting public by being in the know? Why do certain owners take issue that other people might know the well being of their horse before they do? It's because the owner believes hes entitled to something that the punting public are not entitled to, and for me that is his ego talking, in that he is entitled to something that other people are not entitled to.
You can dress it up as you like, they pay the bills, vets etc but does does that entitle them to act on knowledge that they might have because they're an owner? I say the owner does not deserve this entitlement, maybe you say yes they do.
Just a thought Len. There's a reason why inside information is illegal in the equity markets. Shareholders are not allowed to trade on information that is not in the public domain. Why should it be any different here?

Please Horatio can you explain why it matters to you that you know about your horses well being before any 3rd party?

Saksy no one is saying info does not get out that is a reality ,in an equity market an [ owner ] has not had to pay upfront the option is open to all to purchase at what ever level they can afford and all info should be in the public domain , racing can not be compred to the equity market (
) imho

IMO -- At the end of the day, if Flash or anyone else gets info they think is worthwhile and they are prepared to share the info with the rest of us on this forum then '' Good for them and Thank You very much '' It doesn't matter if the horse in question wins or loses, it is up to each individual what he wants to do with the info. '' Use it -- Don't use it '' As far as the owner getting the info first, best price, first bet down or Whatever, the solution to that is strictly between the owner and his trainer. It certainly is not the responsibility of any punter.
