The FACTS are that the CEO of Phumulela has stated in every recent statement,(following disappointing results of local racing) that only legislative assistance by government can change the downward spiral.
Until a management team is in place that has the ability to show a profit out of what is a huge turnover I have to ask you what basis you have to be POSITIVE ...............racing has to survive to have winners to find.
Until there is a reversal in the current trend you have to face the possibility of more and more of your punting being on overseas racing.
Racing is thriving in Japan,Hong Kong,Singapore and even Mauritius.............there is a common denominator.......why is nobody trying to learn from where it IS financially viable?
I would love to have a POSITIVE point of view in respect of local racing ..........I just can't get my head that far up my bum.

I am optimistic that local racing will ultimately survive but only following significant structure and management changes,so I fear it will get worse before it gets better.

Sorry for my ignorance, Rob, but I cannot see the connection between your post and the title of this thread.....

Or am I just correct in my earlier post, that the negatives are so prevalent here on ABC, that no matter what thread it is, it will eventually turn into an attack on racing and on the operators ?

Easy, call me and I will give you Vee Moodley's direct number. He will do his nut when he hears this and will sort it out. I guarantee it.

@ Louisg,

You can slate the posters on here as much as you like, the reality is most are just concerned about the state of the game. The reality is we don't have the inside track as to what is going on,and with the operators steadfastly sticking to a policy of not actually informing us,this is what you land up with.

I joined this site over 6 years ago now.Over the years I have posted many pertinent questions, made constructive suggestions and generally tried to conduct myself in a manner befitting a gentlemen. In all that time the only person connected to PGE who has ever had the decency to answer any questions has been Vee Moodley, and that is a relatively new thing too.

We are all sick for racing, that's why we are here in the 1st place. When a scenario arises such as we have now where those that run the game consider themselves superior to those that feed the game, the resultant shit has to splatter down somewhere.

I'm sure you've been to the racing in the East where the customer is king. Why isn't it like that here?

More than 6 years down the line I have now reverted to the lowest form of wit and sarcasm is all that remains;all the good has long been drained from me.

Instead of slating the posters here, the question should rather be why are people acting in this manner.

That would be a logical approach though, and racing is very short of logic in this country.

Sad to read this thread with the quality of the contributors having mixed opinions, we at ABC have stood the test of time but are still " outlawed" due to the "stigma" attached to the history of forums in SA.
It all boils down to customer satisfaction and how business regards the customer to be king.
Hollywood is a classic example on how to run a business, how much market share increase do you think they have gained by communicating directly with "their" customers , check Betting World thread in comparison.
The biggest threat to the open bet is how the operator treats "their" customer .

I started this thread. What happened was I worked out the weights for the Champions Cup to see if I could get myself an advantage ante post.

I soon realised it was complicated and tedious, but I started it so I finished it. When I was done I found a horse I really think has a chance but I couldn't see how horses would be allowed in. Tellina is still a fresh issue. The conditions clearly ignore Merit Ratings, so I thought it would be sick then to choose MR as entrance to the race as it is the very method the race tries to ignore.

Like J.A.Punter said that the only effort the industry professionals have made here has been Vee Moodley, so I almost posted to him. However, when I called someone clever to ask my question about eliminations before I posted here (and the answer was if there were 40 entries in this race in the UK, that all 40 would run), it was also pointed out that this was a Gold Circle issue and not Vee's cup of tea.

Immediately I realised Graeme Hawkin's name would be a loaded gun, but so what? What about my question, should I not ask or should I not invoke Graeme's name? For the record I've known GH for a long time and I don't have a bad word to say about the man except that I probably won't get an answer given the recent events even though I have addressed the question correctly.

At least I can add Louie to the list with Vee as another insider who will sometimes deign to address us unwashed masses. I will just add that I backed LGs sprinter at Clwd other day and he owes Striker a case of something, and that if racing's customers (us!) cant ask questions because it may chase people away, that is exactly why they should run like Forrest Gumption...run...run!

PS I could have found a number and called GC and maybe even speak to GH, but wtf.

Louis,I quoted the post I was responding to.................that should have given, even you, a clue,
The point is that a lot of the "positive" hopeful feelings about local racing are not supported by fact
There are things to be negative and positive about............the balance is to be realistic

The amazing thing is that racing is not a rocket science industry and the requirements and qualifications to be active in many of the areas is very low ,but many who work in the industry assume some super knowledge and divine right to opinion.............the financials don't lie ..........you participate in a FAILING industry........big deal................get real.

There are people who love racing but do not work within the industry who may have a contribution to make...............the problem is how defensive the incompetent areas are.
On the point of the title of the thread,my previous posts on Graeme Hawkins have always been positive ...............I enjoy his attitude and have described him as responsive and NON-DEFENSIVE( I suggested he handle the E-Mails on Winning Ways for this reason)..........Just my opinion!

Unfortunately, you are correct.I stopped posting on here for quite some time but was sick for a few weeks and have thus got sucked back into the furore. However,as of today I'm climbing back into my hole.My time is far too valuable to waste, and that's all I do when it comes to trying to offer anything constructive to this industry.

Unfortunately the powers that be continue to give the impression of 'ignore it and it will go away' on many issues - my opinion only
