Graeme Hawkins - Champions Cup
11 years 11 months ago
Can someone from Gold Circle clarify the general qualifying criteria to get into the Champions Gup.
It seems that it has nothing to do with handicaps as the weight penalties are for graded performances and specific stake earnings.
In this race, would a high MR get you in before graded performances? From the program, there is no clue why one horse would get in before another.

Jack, you are not an important person in racing, you don't get to ask logical questions.
This is after all RACING;THE GUESSING GAME.

Millie Timkins from Gold Circle has clarified.
Graeme has been to Makro and bought a Dart board which fortunately has 20 numbers on it.
He will be using this along with a newly acquired set of darts to select the field.
If the dart misses the board or hits the bulls eye your horse will be automatically excluded.

Yes, and at that point everyone shouts "Tellina!!" and you write -100 points to the operator.
Sorry.
Couldn't resist.

This thread undermines the goal of ABC imho opinion. It is factually incorrect, shows a lack of effort from so many who can log into this site, but arent bothered to log into the facts, as in the programme or in the local conditions. It is disappointing that African Betting Clan has this open hostility and/or vendetta against persons in Racing, the latest flavour of the month for these people being Graeme Hawkins.
Now here are the simple facts :-
1) Jack - The conditions are very clearly laid out in the programme. The Conditions clearly explain the set weights and the penalties to be accrued. You cloud the issue. In the past, this race was the one for the really classy, top horses, whose achievements saw them giving weight all round and especially in the July. Jungle Warrior springs to mind. He gave weight to the field in the July and finished third. Come the Champions Cup, the conditions of the race narrowed the gap between himself and his rivals considerably and he duly obliged, winning the race. Merit Rating has nothing to do with the weight to be carried. The weight to be carried is set and based upon achievements.
Over the years, I can hardly remember eliminations taking place.
2)Justanotherpunter - no, its not a guessing game at all - the facts are there for all to see. Obviously, digesting those facts is another story, as simple as those facts may be..... Goto www.sahorseracing - the elimination process for plate races is there.
3)Sly - the field will be limited to 16 runners as in all races at Greyville, excepting the July - suggest you change your dartboard.....and also goto www.sahorseracing for proper info. Ultimately, eliminations would be at the handicapper's discretion, but will be done from lowest gross merit rating upwards.
Finally, this ongoing hostility which is based upon figments of the imagination and/or blatant lies is driving some really valuable racing people and their contributions away. I have stayed away for a few months before, because of this rubbish. I know of many who are presently not very happy with these type of posts. I think its time to clean up the act, because surely, many in racing, including racing bodies, are going to distance themselves from these type of posts.

Every person is entitled to there point of view ! It's called freedom of speech ! It's not a vendetta against anyone and even if it was we all have the right to voice an opinion . Who has the right to stop people voicing an opinion ? Forums and Newspapers and TV can decide to air what they choose! Yes sometimes all the facts are not correct but then again who has the right to edit them without backing them up wit facts or opinions of there own? Come on guys get real stop, taking sides listen to everyone and then make a decision. Everyone should take some time to respect opinions !,you aren't all experts ? You may just be over sensitive or defensive! Just start listening for a change.

Bloodshot, you obviously misunderstand the meaning of the word OPINION?
You cannot insult someone, based upon utter bullshit or, for instance, use a racist term and then simply walk away under the banner of it being "opinion" and "freedom of speech"
And sadly, this is what this forum is doing at present...... just my opinion, of course.

Louis
You are correct in almost everything, the one thing i challenge you on is the following.
No way is the everyday punter close to getting a good fair deal
No way are people outside a certain click able to obtain information to very good questions
The distance is vast, some post might not help but there are many good questions that go unanswered, actually i recall 3 lads being accused of bringing racing into disrepute for asking the questions, i miss charl

A small example:
I was in meetings today and slipped out to listen to a race at the vaal.
The number saved on my phone is +27 11 2101107
I dialed and redialed 12 times no comm but instead some race results from elsewhere.
I looked on tabonline.co.za for a number to complain.....impossible to find a number i can call from abroad

Easy
I suggest that you get some specs. ALL OF THE INFO required on this specific thread are available to anybody on the planet.
That's the only point - this thread.
I will continue to serve on the National Trainers panel, the Industry liaison committe and ax chairman of vaal trainers. I will continue to work hard for ehv innocs to become mandatory for the benefit of all in racing. This is a hell of a lot of worknfor no salary. And a list of changes for the better already exist.
But I wont stand by, quietly, when someone is insulted and bashed, when that someone is working his butt off, with his heart and soul totally committed to racing. No, not when it is a lot of bullshit!
