I don't think anyone properly read the first post in this thread.
Entries for the race exceed twenty.
Who'll get in and why?
There will be an antepost market for the race, so it would be nice to know on what basis eliminations will take place.
As Jack says this isn't a handicap, but conditions race.
The picture is fuzzy without guidance from GC (GH).
We have a right to know.

As far as Jack Dash, who started this thread is concerned, I owe him an apology. The original question was actually fair and square. I think the use of Graeme Hawkins name again, after he took unnecessary bullshit re the July field and the bitter, unhappy posters who jumped on the bandwagon, slating all and sundry, influenced my reply to JD.
Jack, my apologies !

Even if I did not agree with his reasons for excluding certain Horses I welcomed being privy to the reasons for it - Dialogue is always good especially on Forums where emotions are not the focal point of an argument.

Hi Robert
Gold Circle's elimination policy states as follows: (as published in the Racing Operators' Conditions):-
7.4.2. Discretionary Power of the Company
The Company may establish the field in any race with a stake value exceeding the highest stake set out in the "minor race stakes distribution" pages of the Programme Brochure. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in Condition 7.4 (which deals with eliminations in all minor races), the Company shall have an absolute discretion, after the closing of declarations to:
7.4.2.1. exempt any horse from the application to it of these elimination conditions so that the horse is not eliminated from any race;
7.4.2.2. eliminate the horse from any race.
What this essentially means is that Gold Circle reserves the right to have sole discretion to choose the final field for any Listed or Graded Race but in practice Gold Circle always determines these final fields in consultation with the Handicappers.
Kind regards
Graeme.

Hilton,
1) I actually get off my backside, as do many others in racing. We DO SOMETHING about issues and problems in Racing. What do YOU do for the improvement of Racing? Write on ABC ?
2) There is good and bad in Racing just as there is good and bad in every Sport or Industry. Identifying these and saying or doing something about the good and also the bad is quite normal. If you want to, you can call it "blowing hot and cold". You could also, maybe, slate anyone who isnt negative about Racing and people in office....
3) If POSSIBLE, could you post some of your positive comments on ABC?
Because maybe there are many out there who might echo Goodie's sentiments.....

Yes, it's established by now that GC can do what it likes with it's own races
However, gambling is an integral part of the show we put on, and while the operators derive the majority of their income from the tote there are others of us who find that antepost betting brings additional interest and fun and enhances our racing experience.
We saw the conditions of the July all but destroy ante post betting in the one event that attracts the greatest antepost interest from the general public. In the end my only antepost bets were from the group of horses that would "definitely" get a run. But a great marketing opportunity will be missed by racing if the ante post market on the July is allowed to deteriorate because it is the strongest ante post market left. I would have thought GC would milk it for what it's worth for their sponsor and for the interest of the show.
As for the Champions Cup, we still have no clue who should get in and therefore it excludes any and all speculation and therefore any betting opportunity. The answer that we can do whatever we like leaves me stone cold.
It's not a good answer but it explains a lot.

and as for trying to contribute iv had discussions with dave thistleton craig eudey guilam nel about how turnover can be increased etc which at the end of the day is what counts in any business but the majority of my ideas have fallen on deaf ears...however you fail to differentiate between being negative positive or simply realistic
