the friend of me tell me the story that 100000 is get raised for the build of the soccer field for the groom at the vaal. these money is allready sit by the ra and larry for he say 2 year but no one is build these soccer field be cause it is say the vaal is no being their for long and the soccer pitch will be build at the new race course the vaal move to. can louisg tell us what is go on hear he is the trainer manager for vaal so he now the story

Larry tells me the amount is about R40k. The grooms have elected a committee and we are busy with the constitution. We will look for sponsors for the balance, as we need about R250k in total.

I am not a manager of any sorts and just on the Trainers Committee, serving as Chairman. This is a tedious, time consuming job and one which causes more enemies than friends, simply because nobody else wants to do it and at times, there are difficult calls to make. So, I am stepping down.

As for my grooms, they are very well taken care of etc.

Harry, Geoff is saying "the right things" to suit himself, imho.

How many Championships did Geoff win here, how many grade ones and how many awards? After 2 years at Randjesfontein, he must be over the "settling in" period, so where is he on the log ? How many Championships will he win from there? What are the average vet bills on those overcrowded tracks?

Right now the Vaal Trainers are firing and our "new kid on the block" Johan van Vuuren is nothing but excellent.

I wont deny that the air is bad here, but we are getting results. I spent Winter in KZN at Clairwood and saw heavy pollution there too. Randjesfontein is next to the most congested roads in Africa and Milnerton is bang in the middle of business, traffic and factories.

The "big" trainers rely on "big" numbers of genetically superior equine athletes. Not only numbers, but also values of individuals make them successful. So we dont have any "big" trainers here, but rand for rand we compare very very well.

Agree with you on committee work - its just not appreciated, no matter how much you achieve and believe me, the list is long !

louis you have the point but where are the day of jean barnard johan van eck john nicholson all top 5 trainer in the transvaal some even top in south africa, for me the mining by vaal is the reel issue that may be give jeff his point he make the coal you are correct is around since i come here in the 60's. i like the fact some trainer do good like johan but for me the top trainer at vaal with out the question is lucky he do very very well for heself the last few year. to me the vaal have to many small and poor trainer. these is no insult any one but really i wonder how some of these guy survive include my friend johan. i supose every one is deserve the place in the sun so good luck to every one. as for the comittee work the question i ask is why the vaal have such a thing in first place i no here of turfontein or randjes trainer association or may be is be cause i no have people who work their so i no here of these guy

Lucky has just called me and is really fuming ! (you know how u Greek guys can fume! ) Lucky wont write on the site, but does follow ABC regularly. So, he has asked me to mention to tell you the following -
1) The only "scrap yard" is in your head
2)You are a grumpy, unhappy old man who hates racing and only wants to see the bad in racing
3)The Vaal has the best Training tracks around and more square meters of track per horse than anywhere else.
4)The reason that the Vaal has a committee is because we are organised, get things done and see that standards are maintained. Vaal Trainers are part of every process in Racing and have started or sorted many issues for the benefit of all Owners and Trainers.
5)Currently, the bad Vaal scrapyard has produced 4 of the top 10 Gauteng Trainers, on the log.
6)The reason that there are many small Trainers here are because this centre has the small 14 stable yards. Randjes smallest barn is 25.

From my side, I can only add that you have ignored the fact that very recently, long after Nicholson retired, ma Heming retired and Johan van Eck decided to go small, Geoff Woodruff won his last of many titles from Vaal. Then he left for Randjes. Lets see.....

Finally, there has been NO CHANGE in the mining activities here, since Geoff won his last title from here. These are facts ! The new mine is only scheduled for 2020.

louis i go look at last season after you say what you do 4 of top 10 is vaal base is only the fool who shout half way during 1st half of the soccer game he is the winner. last season in central province the result is as follow

I never insulted you at all, Flash, not one word. I just gave the facts, really, besides reporting to you what Lucky asked me to write.

As for the Vaal being the place for the battlers, well that could be read either way, you see. You could easily give the impression that all Vaal Trainers are battlers. I think that this is why the guys over here are getting upset.

Geoff was being very unethical by saying what he did, given his past record here and given the real reason why he left here.....

The bottom line is that every Trainer relies on the support of Owners. To keep those Owners, we need results, which the Vaal guys do get. But, a smear campaign or by rubbishing the Vaal with untruths, some Trainers may not get the support or influx of new Owners. This would cost them. So, it's only natural for them to be up in arms when Geoff talks rubbish, after so many successes here, just to suit himself.

And you then quote Geoff, clearly believing him and in so doing, you prove the Vaal Trainers point - others who may want to bring a horse here will read your post or would have heard Geoff and now wont go near Vaal.

So, yes, Lucky had a go at you, but remember Flash, this is not the first time that you have rubbished Vaal here on ABC. You have often done this and I think that he has had enough of it. So too many other Trainers.
