That our gr1 races should not be rated on the same level as international gr1 races,
He used the cape guiness as a example ,in which he said cannot be compared to
the english guiness where a superior bred horse is run
any thoughts
btw this was on winning ways

He was referring to the merit ratings being increased as per international level after Group 1 wins in SA.

Our group 1s are only for South African trained horses, international group races you get horses competing from all over the world.

Perhaps Karl Miedema(or someone from Blood Stock Sa) might be able to post the GR 1 international winners that are South African bred(not those whose dam's have landed here in foal). I wonder how many SA horses have been exported and how many have got black type for their mares outside of South Africa.
I do not believe that many of our GR 1 winners will win an International GR 1 in France or England or Ireland (maybe Germany or Italy?). If you follow this logic then all our horses will be overacted as the best set the standard for the rest.
Perhaps the difficulty of getting a horse to another country is also a factor as is the courses and going they face?

Thank you but unless there are way more that you are missing then I think the results show that we breed good horses but not great horses and the lack of graded winners/ placers in Europe is alarming. So the better local horses suffer because one or two of them might one day place/win in a Gr 1 somewhere in the world other that Europe.

Cerise Cherry in Hong Kong ... a win and two fourths in three races this season including a fourth behind the Japanese wonder-horse Lord Kaneloa in the Gr 1 Longines Sprint Cup.
