in every race 3 or four horses have to take up in the finish...

Isnt it by choice the jockeys bunch up down the inside.? This surface should be the same all over. Use the whole width of the track, they come into the straight 10 wide any way.

I have to agree ................if the problem isn't the turn, I am surprised there is a problem at all!............surely Polytrack doesn't have a bias in the straight?????

I find it increasingly difficult to retain an interest in SA race meetings and over the last year have graduated towards UK meetings.
A lot of the runnings of races in SA are raising lots of questions over race riding and form is in many cases going out of the window.
Because I like to have a punt most days and the weather has thrown a curve ball with no meetings until this evening in UK I have taken a few exotics at Fairview.
I am sorry but the way the races are running you haven't got a prayer.
Favourites finishig stone last or nearly and horses that have shown very little winning.
I appreciate that PE and Kimberley have the mediocre horses but some of the results are beyond belief.
I can assure you that I am not speaking through my pocket but only comment on what I see.

horses well drawn on the poly, have a distinct advantage, the turns are very sharp and if caught 2 or 3 wide on the turn, you are always losing lengths coming into the straight, the home straight is also only 400m and by the time you've come round the turn and straightened your horse up, you probably have 300m to the finish, the horses in front and on the rail have already gone for home before half the field is round the turn, which is why you get out of form horses winning on the poly, the other scenario is that the front horses go hard early on and then tire in the straight and horses sitting midfield on or 1 off the rail can win. It generally takes a really decent horse to come wide or from off the pace into the straight and still win, usually happens in condition plates where ratings aren't applicable. you will also see the greatest distance between the winner and the last horse in the sprint races as horses drawn wide, don't have time to drop in and find a decent position before getting into the home straight.

whilst fields need to be cut...think some jocks still need to learn the art of riding on these poly tracks..u will see in england...jocks have no issues about being 4 wide on the turn...just to keep the horse in the race...some of our jocks are still look for the false rail..which isnt there...and getting into all sorts of trouble..
