Hearsay is that they cannot obtain a broadcasting licence. They can provide the service for free via a decoder but they cannot charge the consumer for it.

Ah now the penny drops! And then how do they determine WHO should qualify for this 'FREE' service? If you consider that even punters that take bets only with bookmakers still contribute to the stakes pot so why should they be penalized for exercising their betting option? I doubt it is constitutional to force a punter to bet with you or else he cannot see the product even-though his rands(no matter the %) are responsible for for your income and thus the funding of Racing.

If ever local racing is not available on TV it will then be time for a petition to the Dept. of Trade and Industry/gambling board to withdraw the current licences to operate local racing!

What would seem to make sense is to agree to appoint arbitrators to negotiate a compromise of contributions between Operators and Bookmakers........that would have a better chance of success due to the obvious animosity that exists between the parties, at present.
Such agreement, would at least suspend any litigation between the 2 parties and,if submitted to Multichoice ,would surely convince them to await the outcome before a final conclusion

and that would perhaps give the Industry a chance- At this junction a few cases of Whiskey in a hotel room and the Principal of both sides locked in that room till they do what's best for the Industry and not what's best for themselves. Wise heads now!

Harris, for all the moans and suggestions, I'm with you.
I love my racing.. No LOVE my racing.
Its what I look for ward to on a Saturday,, interviews, canter pasts, whatever. Show me the race - and I like quality UK as much or even more. What if I never watched Frankel?
I would like a little of both rather than only one.

I am just going to state a FACT from me as an individual punter.

I am a fanatic as far as Cheltenham and did not even look at the card today and I swear I can't even tell you who won the Gold Cup today

I am Broken

I think that some bookies have cracked...I saw overseas racing at a Marshall's branch today...means that they acquired one of those decoders...at what price ??

The split of overseas and local content was to force the hand of the bookies whilst the end of TT on DSTv was due to Mutichoice saying "enough is enough"...

The king supposed to be the customer / punter...if he cannot watch all racing where he wants to watch, he will not bet on all racing...what that does to pools, stakes, profits, dividends, executive pay and perks, etc will reveal itself in due course...

I too invested at the time a chunk of change and was a little miffed when it became part of the Multichoice set up.....was happy with M-Net and IGN alone then had to migrate to DSTV to get my fix.....for a while up to 2 years I scored by splitting the TT channel off my smart card by acquiring a new smart card and my old card still had TT.....had 2 decoders and one dedicated to TT....then along came the smart card marriage to decoder and I lost this little perk....3 years ago I upgraded to HD and enjoy PVR and to keep the peace at home watch catch up or pre-recorded shows between races....always been toying with dual view as I still have a few spare decoders around but the push never came to shove....now I am not going to leap at any new option to acquire something that may be a short term or temporary fix.....I await a sound solid viable solution,,,,,should it not be with DSTV I will look to upgrade my cheap Chinese HD Plasma to a new Korean SMART TV and steam downloaded movies and series from a dedicated hard drive for the fraction of a Multichoice subscription and if I want to watch sports or any other bumf I will look to the FTA decoder and realign my DSTV dish to get this service....as for racing happy to pick up the slightly delayed streams on my lap top or tablet.....in a nutshell I'm just as gatvol for DSTV as their offering of recent is scant the series are always delayed and off on a break and will continue in a few months....Why TF do you think I am here on a Friday evening on here.....simple I have f"@kol to watch,,,,,,::o
