Well said Sheza--- totally agree. While using playa bet.. There system in error duplicated my bet- i called the guy-- the horses jumped. He still cancelled my bet. I had a similar issue with hollywood and soccer bet on Arsenal. I had to spend 35 minutes on the phone only to get my bet paid @ the adjusted price. My issue was- they accepted my bet- after the match my stake was refunded and the dilema was incorrect price... I simply could only get them to pay me out @ there adjusted price.(Which was an argument first) While i appreciate that errors can be made i too do not understand the double standards ..

Sheza
that is exactly what I was trying to say in my first post.
Hollywood took advantage of this situation because it was taken ONLINE.
Listen, don't get me wrong, Hollywood are usually a great company to deal with, but in this case ...HAIBO.
No matter what "fine print" they talk about, but to the man in the street, this is daylight robbery.

A few writers are getting hot under the collar and come up with strange betting stories. But the issue is about "mistakes", and after that, the size of the mistake.
Clearly if a bookmaker, or a friend, lays you 25/1 about a soccer match where you know the odds are 2.5/1, then you know someone has made a mistake. How you behave (when you notice) just describes who you are and how you feel the world has treated you. There is an attitude where people think they should be rewarded for not robbing you...is this a South African thing now?

Jack , exactly, steal the price and hope to get paid, but don't worry when you don't
Basically if you notice an error ( which every punter would know in the above case ) try your luck , but if it doesn't come off, no ha done
Big difference from a bookie making an error of judgement than a software company update problem

jack....first and foremost....NO BOOKMAKER IS YOUR FRIEND...u may laugh ,joke eat ,lunch, get credit....but that doesnt make him your friend...secondly...we are getting screwed every other day...when they bet to 140+%on events....so we check,we scout, and yes we take advantage of situations...one of my friends only makes money by taking arbitory bets..he sees a situation and bets...when they bet to 95% and less...normally it takes 2 bookies to get the advantage...but we seek it every day...so dont get all prim with us getting under the collar...after all the horse or team still has to win...so there is still risk attached...no matter the price...how many times i phone a bookie for a price, after it just shortened....famous response.."i'm full up"...but a minute ago...before it shortened he would have given u the price...call me me thief..or a man with no values...but if i see an opportunity.that is legal..i want to take it....and thats not stealing....

Thank you GURU for having the guts to reply.
I had a lengthy response already typed for JACK... but you know what, it's a holiday in SA, etc and did not want to get him or anyone else "hot under the collar" as well.
But Jack, what you term a "South African thing now?' is NOT that we complain too much but it is infact that we DO NOT complain enough. We tend to accept low levels of service from various businesses. If we don't complain, businesses would think that customers are idiots and we ought to accept whatever is dished out. Sorry it does not work like that. They seem to forget that the reason they are in operation, is because of the customer and not the other way around.
It is quite obvious that some of us on ABC have higher expectations.
But having said that, HOLLYWOOD erred in the communications department in that they failed to notify their client of what had occured in the transaction. If that was done, I don't think we would have had this thread.
I have always praised Hollywood on ABC and to my fellow punters but Hollywood also need to know when a customer is not happy.

Where is the line drawn with a mistake ?
Hollywood's horseracing betting is independent.
So the day they have 16-1 a horse most others have 6-1, can they turn around later and say it was a mistake ?
Or the day a 33-1 shot is treble claimed and they still have 33, can they cancel the bet ?

This is the crux of the matter, particularly when the rule is unilateral and undefined!
What is a mistake?
A bookmaker perceives a horses chances of winning at 50% and offers 1/1...............if the horses wins it's real chances were actually 100%..............is that a mistake? I realise that it may be an extreme example but as Ruffian says "where do you draw the line?"
The problem is that, within that rule, the bet confirmation slip is not proof of a concluded transaction
(Let me say again .......this beef is not with Hollywood but with every bookmaker that has the rule, which I think is all of them!)

After the event Hollywood cannot unilaterally just change the payout and say 'fuck you...the price was wrong...we pay you x amount'.....I do not even understand the debate here. On the other hand if they had just bitten the bullet and paid the R137... or whatever the pennies were...no one would have been the wiser. No setting of precedents...no 'principles'.... and life would have gone on.

Hollywood are a top class firm.
These are however INDUSTRY rules that should be clarified by ALL firms.
