114/115 if using Whiteline Fever and 114 if using Beach Beauty...

I typed up a (long) explanation (deleted when I tried to post) but don't have time to redo so will post it later...

Do you have sectional times to back up your statement ?

.....for me it was not a straight up front punt and as I explained why.....hit it in the place market only and swingers with BB.....my exotic play for the Tri was float it with the best miler in town.....and it found 4th box.....:...I believe that KOP should not be rated higher than the horses he beat and if there is any fairness in the system a 112 should be the max.....::o

allow me to field this too.....If one is an observer of the way horses pace....a stop watch is not the ultimate tool.....it was clear to even the very short sighted that something was clearly amiss with the way the race was run.....even the winner who has swooped in some Cape races with a better turn of foot looked to be plodding....BB also appeared to battle to find her stride......but agree that a Trakus type of system be a priority to address fractional or sectional timing issues...;)

Frodo, I don't have sectional times to backup my statement, I have average times. On what was a 'good going' day the Challenge was run at a time 2L below average (95.4 vs 95 seconds). On a good going day most horses (especially grp1) win in above average times but in this case this race was run at a time below average.

.....I was conceived in a racing stable and grew up with horses most my adolescent life.....what horse show in genetics, social and environmental behaviour cannot be captured in static print....each trial or race they run the conditions and temperament vary that is why I have a "go wide" approach to race betting as at any level even the very best have chinks that deviate them from being machines....::o
I actually did not want KOP to win on Saturday.....he was my ghost horse to crack something bigger.....;)

You may be right - but a 'stop watch' can certainly confirm a slow pace ?

@ken - I accept that you work on average times - you say the race was run in a 'below average' time - however the Computaform lists the average time of the class at a slower 95.78; I accept they may have it wrong and also that on the day the time might have been slower than average, but was it significantly slower ?

I'm just saying that perhaps King of Pain has improved as a result of being allowed to lead (for the first time in his career I think) and that a 'slow pace' was maybe not the only reason for him winning a good race. Will be interesting what the handicapper makes of this.

Maybe someone with a stopwatch can confirm the fractions ?

both Stolen Destiny(mr86,60kg) and KOP(mr107,60kg) ran the mile in 95.4 secs

2014/06/07 1600 KING OF PAIN 95.45 going Good
2013/06/08 1600 VARIETY CLUB 94.42 going Good
2012/06/09 1600 VARIETY CLUB 95.78 going Good (but soft in my calc)
2011/06/13 1600 DANCEWITHTHEDEVIL 96.89 going Very Soft
2010/06/12 1600 BIG CITY LIFE 96.45 going Good (but soft in my calc)
2009/06/13 1600 POCKET POWER 94.63 going Good
2008/06/14 1600 DANCER'S DAUGHTER 94.47 going Good

the most interesting performer on the day is Air Patrol. if the time of 117.84 is true it makes him the fastest horse over the course and distance. I'll be watching the formline with keen interest....
