Lucky Dude's Betting Diary...
10 years 10 months ago
I've decided I'm going to diarize my feelings and experiences in testing a new betting system I'm testing. Why? Because if I don't do this I believe I will not complete my goal of putting 100 R20 bets on it unless I commit to it and diarize it. I'm not going to tell you what my selection criteria is and why I've selected those horses, but hopefully some of you can share your gambling emotions with me through what will be the inevitable ups and downs of testing a new system. Why R20 bets? Because that's the minimum allowed on Interbet and I'm not going to do R6 on the tote, the value there is too poor. The basic premise of the horses I will pick is that I believe they a worthy favorites and deserve a bet... The goal is to show a flat bet profit after 100 equal bets... How much am I going to win or how much am I going to lose...? Let the fun begin...

I decided I will only play my selections on Turf if the going is good or good to soft. I'll try my luck on sand and poly too. Can you tell that I'm an action junkie?

Ok, my first selection was at Vaal Turf on the 24th of July, race 4.. The 1 horse DEVIOUS TIGER did the business and won with Strydom up. YES!!! off to a good start. Interbet showed me a profit of R27.23 for my genius play. I was at work when I made this bet and did not see my horse win thanks to Tellytrack not giving us live streaming on pc's anymore. But even looking at the horses name come up on the Interbet screen made me jubilant. I'm thinking, this is going to be easy money

My 2nd Selection was Red Rain in race 8. Now this was an interesting one because of what happened just before the off. My system says I must pick my horse only if it is a favorite. Two minutes before the off it was the Interbet favorite when I placed my bet. But when it jumped it was not the favorite anymore on Interbet, but it was on the tote. My bet was on and I was in like it or not. Why does this kind of thing happen to system players to make us confused as what to do and whether we should record the result because it did not strictly adhere to the system... My lucky day...It won!!! I couldn't see it run, but I jumped for joy when I saw the result on Interbet! My system is bullet proof I'm thinking.... At this rate I'll become a millionaire
I made R63.55 profit on that bet and I was now R90.78 up for the day and all I risked was my first R20 bet. Money for jam I tell you!

My 3rd bet was placed on CHERRY TRIPPER in race 2 at Greyville Polytrack on the 26 July. Now here is one thing I cannot explain about horse racing but I find very strange... When I watch my selections run on TV, they almost always lose, especially if friends or family members are present and I've told them I have an incredible system that has been working like a bomb! Callan Murray took my horse to the front, the blood in my veins was pumping, it looked like it was going to win, I was counting my extra profits in my head, and then a funny thing happened. It faded so badly! It ran unplaced. FARK! my system was not perfect  A loss, oh no, that was not supposed to happen. Now I'm starting to doubt my system... Maybe the jockey was at fault? He pushed the horse too hard in the beginning and got it exhausted too early. The jockey is an apprentice, maybe I should exclude apprentice jockey's in my system... Maybe I should only bet on the turf.... doubts start to cloud my mind... NO! I decided there and then that would commit to the original system for 100 bets. After all, my system was still showing a profit of R70.78 after three R20 bets. That's still a good outcome....What next....?

My 4th selection was at Turffontein the following day, race 5, INDIRA, this looked like a sure thing. It got off to a slow start, was boxed in on the bend, but made up ground rapidly. It just came short and ran 2nd. Was the jockey asleep at the start? That one should really have won, I had such a good gut feeling about that one. I'm starting to find myself blaming the jockeys for my misfortunes... R50.78 profit after 4 R20 bets, 50% strike rate, not too bad....

My 5th selection was TIGER FLAME (AUS) in the 8th race... After I placed my bet, one of the teletrack presenters mentioned my horse was a 2 year old! I didn't even notice that! My system excludes juvenile races! But this is not a juvenile race! It's a juvenile in a normal race... My system didn't think that might happen... Once again why do these confusing situations keep happening to me when I play a system.... The horse Gods hate me! It tried hard but ran 4th... Once again it had an apprentice on it. I'm starting to hate apprentice jockeys on favorites, but I'm committed to my system... My profit is R30.78 after 5 R20 bets, not too bad...

Incredibly, every race where I bet and watched my horse run on television, it lost, and when I didn't watch the race on television, it won! So I was quite happy to try the system at Flamingo Park on Monday when I was back at work and far from a telly. This would be the first attempt at sand racing for my not so bullet proof system...
My 6th selection came up in race 8. CARLISIE, I really liked this one, and so do some ABC members on the daily thread. I was pretty confident. BUT, then that sinking feeling started to come to my stomach when the price started sliding badly... It went from 9/10 to 16/10...What to do.... Once again, confusion reigns... I decided to stick to the system and back it. I waited for the Interbet results screen patiently.... The result came up... 2nd, Darn! So close... My system was still showing a profit of R10.78 after six R20 bets. At least I'm still in the green I thought...

I've now had for consecutive losses... When will I get a winner again. This all started so well and now this big swing in my fortunes...
My 7th selection came up in race 9, KATANGA. I liked the name and I had a good feeling about this one... Surely it was time for a winner again... I backed it and waited for the result.... 3rd! darn, not again! Now my system was in the red for the first time, I'm now R9.22 down. Not a train smash, but the pride in my bullet proof system is waining a bit now....
I decided to sit out at Durbanville due to the soft going. But will try again... So now I've had 5 losing bets in a row and I'm in the red. I'm thinking there's only 93 more bets to go, if I loses them all it will be R20x93=R1860 loss plus the R9.22 I'm down.... Worst case scenario is that I'll lose R1869.22 due to this experiment. If that happens I'll give up on horse racing forever....
