Well worth watching. Unfortunately has the same name after one of Gary Alexandra's top horses who was imported from New Zealand and won the John Skeaping Trophy. Oh well that was about 15 years ago.

He never really cost R4.5 Sold for R1.5 on book 1 of CTYS
then on R to R went to the high price Only put on that sale so that he becomes eligible for the R to R
race They always intended to buy him back
That is why many buyers give the R to R sale a miss

Jooste had purchased Brutal Force at the Cape Premier Yearling Sale for R1.5m so was looking at a tidy profit when the bidding reached R4m on Friday. Auctioneer Andrew Miller had a duel on his hands with Cape trainer Joey Ramsden bidding on behalf of Jooste and Gauteng trainer Michael Azzie bidding for his patron, Adriaan van Vuuren.
Azzie cried enough at R4.5m and said later: "Adriaan wanted to go another bid but I said ‘no, that’s enough’ and thank God he didn’t go any higher."
Derek Brugman, Jooste’s racing manager, said: "We put a value of R5m on him and we would have let him go if the bidding had reached that figure."

Unlike most/all clansmen I see nothing wrong with the buy-back. By buying-back at R4.5m Jooste denied himself an opportunity to cash in on R4.0m which is what I assume the previous bid to have been.
Interestingly, Brugman said the colt would have been sold at R5.0m which is probably equivalent to the first prize stake of that Ready-To-Run race.

Well it has been a while since I was here on ABC, but the subject of this particular thread has irked me for some time. Brutal Force (NZ) was indeed a horse trained by Gary Alexander, and he was a very special horse. He won 6 of his 17 starts, including the Grade 2 John Skeaping Trophy. He was born in 1995, so I guess they are within the rules to recycle the name for a 2011 foal. But I do find it a bit sad, because our Brutal Force raced so recently. his last start was in October 2000, and in racing terms, that is 3 foal cycles! I wish them all the luck with the new chap. May he surpass his namesake's achievements!
