Maybe Mr Goosen would like us to be idiots.

We could all hear about a good thing and rush down to the tote early and put our wins on there.
Where will you be pulling off your next coup ? Will you be taking money away from the racing operator and betting with the opposition because it suits you ?
Hypocrite. You chastise others for playing the open bet with bookmakers, but you play there when it suits you.

The jockey admitted he downplayed it in the post race interview for Brugman to get on.
There's an admission.
Its a mistake. I doubt he will do it again.
But to put Marcus Jooste in the same boat as owners who punt is laughable. I promise he wants 100% transparency in racing.
And if Louis doesnt believe that, then he just earned the dunces cap

Yes, if someone refuses to grasp the simple facts it is better that they be unhappy somewhere else. Truth is that without the post race interview, there was no problem. The jock said that he would be surprised if he didn't finish in the first 3 on a first timer. After that, the horse was claimed and won.

I say again, how thick are you, if this upsets you ? What do you actually want in racing ? What skullduggery took place ?

And as for pots and kettles. ... The statements here just prove how posters have no clue what they are writing about, and make assumptions that are actually a joke. When they cannot address the facts and make stupid statements, the only defence is to call someone a piss cat etc. How little they know. ....These fumbducks.

And that's why so few trainers post on abc. They just cannot be bothered with 5 or 6 idiots that mess it up for the rest.

If every first timer " who wouldn't miss first three " and was claimed with our huge book maker limits won, we would all be millionaires by now, but apparently the posters on ABC are " stupid " do me a favour.
I was in a book makers rooms on the day and was told by the bookie that straight from the jock, it was unbeatable so don't believe this innocent jock song and dance, he was trying to line his own pockets

Ruffian
Was it not transparency to say what he did before the race ? How many jocks or trainers would say that ? Why bring Markus into it ?

The horse won. And yes, I believe everything I hear from the bookies. Yes, the jock was lining his pickets. Yes, racing is crooked. What a lot of crap.
Because if there was any plan to mislead the public, there are a million other ways he could have answered the interviewer before the race.

It's the post race interview that got everyone going, especially the ones who didn't back the horse. Because, after the race, it was too late. ..

Then why did he admit what he did in the post race interview ?
He said he downplayed it because Brugman likes a punt.

I wouldn't have backed it with stolen money even if he had said it worked with top horses.
So - I'm not speaking with sour grapes.
I must be an idiot though - because I believed him in the post race interview.

One question or issue that we haven't dealt with on this thread is the obligation of Trainers, Jocks and Owners, in terms of giving info on horses to the public. So, let me take it up, as a Trainer.

I know of no rule which binds me in terms of my having to tell anyone what the chances of my runners are. There is absolutely no mention of this anywhere. Yet, I have never withheld info from the public and go out of my way to get my info out there. When we are having a bet, I get my Owners on and then let everyone know.

However, the majority of Trainers do not bother or go to those lengths. The problem is that the few who bother are the ones who take flak. It's actually a no win situation.

As for Telly track, the presenters often get it wrong in that they do not ask all Trainers with runners or decide to neglect certain horses, because they decide that those horses can't win etc.( It isn't an easy job anyway.)

Then there is the producer and Telly track management. I found it quite funny that Rod Mc Curdy threatened me with not marketing my stable etc. This led to a "comedy of errors" which still goes on today My son and I have lots of laughs behind the scenes on this topic. He watches Telly track avidly when I am racing. It has become a game for us. As my horse wins, he calls me and we guess which advert they will play during my interview.... This is on the days when interviews are being shown. We have a few days when there were 9 races and only 8 interviews were shown. .. The best being when we won with trip tease and they switched to a replay of a documentary that Andrew Bon had put together on the forthcoming Dubai Super Saturday... The only problem being the fact that the Super Saturday meeting had already taken place on the previous weekend....lol.
Another one which we play games with is my use of Winning Form. This has been my choice of formguide for about 13 years now. It's amazing how the cameraman zooms in and up, when I am on and holding my Winning Form at my chest. So now I start low with the Winning Form and subtly bring it up to just under my chin. They then quickly cut to a slow motion (on the dvd) of the horse winning or the lead in etc. Every now and then, I throw the cat amongst the pigeons by mentioning eMeM's selections and referring to Winning Form. Watch next time we have a winner, you will see and you might even see the funny side of it.
Ultimately, though, we are not obligated to give our info to anyone, yet we try. Unfortunately, there isn't much benefit for us as a yard, from a Marketing point if view, so we may decide not to discuss our runners with Telly track in future.
Especially when post race interviews are not on a regular slot and very little, if any, exposure is gained from these.....at midnight. So much for "marketing" our yards...

Yes, Ruffian, you must be an idiot then, if you think he stuck anyone away. The post race interview did not change the result nor the fact that the money was down.
I would be mad as hell if my jock even said a word, let alone what MJ did about ,one of my first timers. First timers belong to the stable. The rule with any first timer is to watch the betting. It's very simple. More Owners have got sour to racing because of their price being taken on first timers than for any other reason. That's a fact.

So, I get the point VERY clearly. And I can guarantee you that pre race interviews are going to be quite different from now on. I dont think that jocks are going to be lining up to do these, after this thread. So, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there will be less info for punters, I'm afraid....

I think Louis is spot on,he has to look after the people that pay the training fees first and foremost, then if he's kind enough to post on here, great.
Regarding Byleveld,If he said pre-race that the horse should be 3rd at least,I think that's confidence.Lets be honest,it didn't bolt up by 5 lenghts and was touch and go that it would win.Short head in it.It cost me plenty,as I had runner up,but that's racing.
Engles, pal when there's wonga involved, some people act for their own benefit. They are not thinking about you,me or the old boy at bookies. Also where is the platform for these owners/ trainers to reveal their bets after they have got on.

Show me that Bookmaker and I will show you a liar...that I can tell you with 100000000% certainty Craig anyone who knows him will tell you that MJ is a "Team Player" of the highest order and would NEVER make a statement like that and DEFINITELY not to any bookmaker...FACT!
Give everything but up!
