Definitely light in that photo, Sly. But definitely not near as bad as on the photo taken 6 weeks later...

Hi Guys
So I was in partnership with a 6 time winner in KZN. We decided to move her to JHB as most the lease owners wanted to watch her run and we though she could win some black type. Her form was good in KZN. Once moved to the highveld she lost her form and we thought ok well maybe not a great move to send her up here. After couple more runs she had not been in the money for 7 starts in JHB. Trainer told us that she has lost her zest for racing. So we decided to retire her and send her back to the farm where see came from so she could breed. Low and behold when she arrived she came back a shadow of the horse she once was as 6x winner. Look at the difference between the two pics. Under fed, coming off drugs or stomach ulcers, I'm not sure I'm not a trainer nor a vet but I am horse owner and to see the horse who gave me great joy and pleasure turn out this way is shocking to say the least. The farm is trying everything to get healthy again and have to commend there efforts. I understand horses loose weight when traveling but not like this. Nothing positive about this. Trainers should be held accountable!!
Shocking

So Louis what you saying is that the mare is in that state because of the stud farm? Trainer did nothing to prevent this from happening? Or are you saying these things happen?

Tank to my eye the mare looks worse in your original photo than she does on her arrival at the stud farm. The question to be answered is when the 2 photos were taken and you will have your answer.
One thing is clear. One of the two parties is lying. Shocking to see how this horse has deteriorated in condition.

Over the air, the stud farm wanted to breed with her. Would do anything in there power to make sure she is well looked after. Why would they post all of this on facebook if they the guilty party. It is shocking and if you look at the facebook it looks like there is another horse that was with same trainer that has bad condition. Golden also has an infection in her foot and might have to be put down. Something is not right here. The truth will come out for sure!

My suggestion is to close this thread ... It is a trial by "media" for both the Trainer and Farm ... We have an NHRA to deal with matters like this and failing that the NSPCA and Civil and Criminal courts(Cruelty to Animals) ... the rep of the trainer has been sullied and as we progress the Stud's rep is going the same way... Social Media has its value but first try the established routes before using this medium ... Remember the dramatic posts on Facebook by Mrs Van Vuuren? That road had more than a few turns in it and think this road is going the same way. Maybe we should also remember that the primary use of Smartphones is to make telephone calls and a call to the trainer for his version would be the first place to start rather than posting pictures without actual proof of his 'negligent' actions?

Shouldn't there be some sort of formal handover for these kind of situations...like a quality checklist sign off or pre-medical check etx? Pardon my ignorance on the topic, but it seems very loose to an outsider.

I am not taking any sides here BUT.... if she has, as quoted "a infection in her foot and might need to be put down"......THEN the condition she is in is totally normal as it sounds like laminitis... Any vet will tell you that sadly, when a horse has laminitis, you have to cut the feed and I have seen many horses look like this only to recover and regain their weight and health and continue with life and then obviously there are those that pass on from the laminitis or have to be euthanased!

If you look at thin photo of horse Golden M ,does not look like laminitis.
Both back legs and joints swollen, either mud fever or got one hell of a Virus.
Called Neglect!

Why is front shoes not put on backwards to alleviate pain in front feet a take pressure of the soles of the feet ?
Look at scabs on hind legs from Mud fever or infections
Also never heard of laminitis in hind feet.Abcesses yes !
The horse might even have shed or greasy heel in hind foot!
