Durban July Log

The Michael Azzie trained dual Grade 1 winner, Hat Puntano (ARG), was an interesting supplementary entry this morning for the 2017 Vodacom Durban July bringing to 47 the number of horses still in contention for the big race on 1 July 2017.

The first VDJ Log has been issued by Gold Circle and serves as a clear indication as to who would be in the field if the race was run tomorrow. “We have not considered Hat Puntano at this stage as he has yet to win beyond 1600 metres and has not been seen in action since July 2016,” said Gold Circle Racing Executive Raf Sheik. “Hopefully he will make his South African debut in the near future,” he added.

The top six spots on the VDJ Log are occupied by horses who have won automatic qualifying races this season. Marinaresco and Captain America, at 7 and 8, lead the way amongst the balance but there is a long way to go yet and those on the outside looking in still have plenty of opportunities to qualify.

The VDJ LOG as at 14:00 on Tuesday 9 May 2017:-

True - of course I'm not privy to the de Kock stable's plans - but I would be surprised of he runs Orchid Island off a Nett 95  - will have to win the Woolavington convincingly

well please could somebody from gold circle tell me where do this come from as if you read the conditions of the race on sahra nowhere does it say a horse gains automatic entry for winning any race and while you about gold circle which races going forward obtain you automatic entry into the race ..In days gone by winning the betting world 1900 used to guarantee you a run in the july but that is nowhere to be seen in the conditions of the race on sahra..I notice if you win the cup trial on the 10th of june it states that you are guaranteed a run in the champions cup on the 29th of july...YOU CANT START MAKING UP FCUKING RULES AS YOU GO ALONG THESE GUARANTEES OF RUNS MUST BE FCUKING PRINTED IN THE SAHRA WEBSITE PROGRAM OF RACES

i WILL tell you another thing if horses are guaranteed runs then you will see horses been given easys as why would you firstly cut a horse in half and secondly why would you want to decrease its chance of winning the july by winning something else and carrying more weight in the july..the fcuking mediocrity continues

I'm hoping I'm correct but I thought this was the way they had structured the race - from 2014

I agree - if affects ante post most because if you know your horse has won a qualifier(if they are using this?) you have a guaranteed runner if the stable accepts
