Black Arthur has not had a run since the first log was published - so no surprise - will have to win the Cup Trial - and I think he will

The log only reflects the horses that are from 20 to 25. There will be a major shake up of the log after Saturday.

Interesting to me is the rating given to Edict of Nantes - handicapper is of the view that Al Sahem ran to his rating - but that would mean that both Horizon and Copper Force ran above their ratings - possible of course, but if both Horizon and CF ran to their ratings, it would mean that EoN rna to around 104 and AS to 103
What it also means is that AS will now receive 0.5 kgs from EoN in the July - so not much between them at all
I still prefer the older horses

Re: Latest Durban July Log
8 years 2 months agomy first and last post on this years july...i believe the three year old colts in my opinion are underated by the handicaper and im basing that on the met run of gold standard who 6 months ago was very unlucky not to run third in the met and achieved a merit rating of 115 ..there is no ways that gold standard is between 7 to 8 pounds superior to edict and al sahem over a distance of 2000m ..theres no ways that marineresco can give these 2 class 3yos up to 6 kg and beat them ...the only horse of the older brigade who might trouble them is black arthur who has had 1 pleasing run since his gelding over a distance 1000m short of his best ...im very happy with this log as there are around 5 horses that arent in the top 16 that should be in and plenty dead meat no hopers are included in the top 16 ...Frodo wrote: Interesting to me is the rating given to Edict of Nantes - handicapper is of the view that Al Sahem ran to his rating - but that would mean that both Horizon and Copper Force ran above their ratings - possible of course, but if both Horizon and CF ran to their ratings, it would mean that EoN rna to around 104 and AS to 103

Yes, ratings look shaky and a bit hard to believe.

For me French Navy and Bela-Bela should be at the bottom of the list.

I agree about the dead meat

I have a nice 850/1 double running with Ten Gun Salute, I have backed The Conglomerate at odds ranging from 35's to 50's, I backed Saratoga Dancer at 35's and 33's and It's My Turn at 20's and 14's (was sleeping a bit there

The gutsy winner of the R2-million, Grade 1 Daily News 2000 at Greyville last Saturday, Edict Of Nantes, has bolted to the top of the official Vodacom Durban July Log along with his expected move to the top of the betting boards for Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event.
The Brett Crawford-trained Investec Derby winner fought out the finish of the classic event with the Sean-Tarry-trained winner of the South African Derby at Turffontein, Al Sahem, to win by half a length making him a strong contender for the champion three-year-old title at the Equus Awards later in the year.
Al Sahem retains his second position on the Log with Marinaresco from the Candice Bass-Robinson stable stepping up from seventh on the log to occupy third place following his win in the Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes.
New to the Log is the Betting World 1900 winner from the Duncan Howells stable, Ten Gun Salute, who has been allocated the ninth spot while Safe Harbour from the Tarry stable leapt out of the “looking on” section into 15th place. After his improved run to finish third in the Daily News 2000, the Bass-Robinson-trained Horizon became a new member of the top 20 to take 19th place and another Tarry runner, Tilbury Fort, made his first appearance on the log in 17th position.
Master Switch and Zodiac Ruler dropped out of the top 20 while Heavenly Blue, Girl On The Run and Prince Of Wales disappeared off the radar.
It was also revealed today that both Smiling Blue Eyes and Africa Rising from the Tarry stable have been scratched from the race.
