Kommetdieding vs Linebacker July and Met runs / rides - Full credit to Gavin Lerena! 2 extraordinary rides that has won both group 1s IMO.

Agree...jockeyship won the races...could have gone too early when the pace-setters faded in the straight but just kept the horse together for a bit longer than most other jockeys would have...
Tilt at Gauteng Champions Challenge race ? Happy for the owner and trainers...

100%. When interviewed by SABC early in the week Gavin responded to a question about the pressure of a big race by saying pressure is for tyres:P

Haha I've seen that. If you look at how both times Kommetdieding turned for home just ahead of Linebacker and kept a straight line, versus Linebacker switching for some reason or the other before making his run, you can't help but think they'd be on top of each other given equal rides.
Can't wait for their next clash! Too much to ask that Malmoos finds himself again by then..

I thought it was an excellent day of racing and also the coverage was good - only blemish was the confusion that reigned after the MET - but that's understandable as everyone was going a bit dilly in the aftermath
Back to the racing - great run by Warrior after looking beaten at the 200 - could be more to come from him especially as I thought the 1400 was at the bottom of his range - will be interesting to see what the handicapper makes of his effort.
Politician - apparently Pacaya got his 'knickers in a knot' - needless to say that he was disappointing, but to me it was also a strange ride taking him to the front; good win by Universal - I thought that the 1800 would be a stretch, but he proved me wrong, while Master Redoute ran way above his rating and should pay to follow; Zapatillas had every chance imo, but failed to quicken enough when it mattered
Cape Flying - I thought Bling caught them on the hop - strange decision to have blinkers on Real Gone Kid - I would have thought that the blinkers were there to make him go out and win the race from the front - anyway the ratings did prove correct (except for fantastic efforts by the Bass pair) - Rio Querari made up some ground but imo flattened out in the final 50m - seems that he is a horse where timing his run is essential - not that one can blame the jock as he wanted to make sure that RGK did not get too far ahead
Majorca - what more can one say
MET - I agree a great ride by Gavin - I thought he was beaten 200 out, but he extricated a bit more from Kommet when it mattered; fantastic run by Double Superlative (what will the handicapper do) who seems ready to take over the mantel of Do It Again - who himself ran a good race - will they go to KZN for one last fling ? Marina disappointing effort - surely better than this, especially considering her run in the Paddock
Stayers race - I think Bling was very lucky - Sparkling Waters should imo have been much handier and it nearly backfired
Then just to mention Izapha - what a poor effort - something amiss
