He get's solid support from the major stables around the country, about time he hits a fiver.

From a punters view.

What was exciting with the first meeting under HW?

Am not knocking HW and what they are doing.

I'd venture that the fields were slightly bigger than is the Cape norm so better value available for betting...

Obviously a lot of noise about the 'new team' - and I do take my hat off to mr Bortz for taking the initiative; however purely from a punter's point of view, the pools were disappointing - not sure if this was just because the Cape punters have mostly given up the ghost after the last few years - the BP pools at both Gauteng meetings this week (with small fields and despite the apparent disgust at 4Q) both topped R220k - while the Cape BP pool was a mere R170k

Hopefully the Cape pools will increase - let's see

I have mentioned it before. Compared to their competitors, there are fewer totes in Western Cape and they do not have an online platform. So what cut are they getting when punters wager in a different province or online. How will the new Operator of Cape Racing going to recover their investment.

As much as I'd like to buy into the whole hype of what's going on in Cape racing now, nothing will really change with the size of tote pools until the SA Operators regain the trust of 'old' customers. There are too many unanswered questions with regards to the tote for too many years now. The best way to find new customers is if you have the 'old' customers providing a positive word of mouth, but that's never gonna happen as things stand.

Would you encourage your teenage kid to play horse racing?

Most of us got into the game when we were young and are still here 30 years+ later, but there's hardly any 'generational passdown' anymore.
