Inquiry – jockey Andrew Fortune

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry that was held on 17 August 2009 in Cape Town, Jockey Andrew Fortune was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that as the rider of SEAL OF APPROVAL he did not ride the horse out to the end of the race and as a result he prejudiced this horse’s chances of finishing in 3rd position, which on the balance of probability it would have done had it been ridden out to the end of the race.

Mr Fortune pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Board found Mr Fortune guilty and imposed a penalty of a one month suspension, of which two weeks is wholly suspended for a period of one year provided that Mr Fortune is not found guilty of contravening this Rule during that period.

Mr Fortune has the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.

same applies to Anton...
a few weeks ago he got pipped by AG LAIRD for 3rd place..
he was on the ODD's on fav..
his brothers horse won..

the guys were CURSING him to kingdom come...now he is the hero..
I was happy..had both LAIRD horses in the PA..
same as Fortune..if he wanted..he could have run 3rd that day...no fine???

Barry, it's ironic you say that about a South African Jewish sportsman. Do you know that there was a very long held belief (or superstition) that the Springbok rugby team were not complete unless there was at least one Jew in the team? Consequently they went into their first ever World Cup with confidence as they had the one Jew, Joel Stransky, and sure enough he won the cup for us with a magnificent drop goal in extra time!

are you suffering from short memory, or is it a case of selective amnesia.

I raised the same point about Marcus riding for Laird on odds on favourite and managing to run 4th, while Felix riding his brothers horse won the race at odds of +10/1....quite sure if you go back to previous treads, you will recall posting a response to this issue.

Im quite clued up as far as Mauritian racing is concerned and from what Ive heard the Mauritian Turf Club want Karis back in Mauritius as they paid for his "fees". The M.T.C are trying to higher the standards of there local riders and therefor decided to send there appies to the academy in SA. I hope theres a way out for Karis as I believe his a very talented rider and he would be a big loss to SA racing. I firmly believe that his talent would be wasted in Mauritius as theres no international recognition.
