justanotherpunter...my apologies to you, it was Mr Hawai who responded in defense of Anton's integrity. And for the record, I do rate Marcus as one of the best jockey's. I just question that particular ride...the horses name is Commission Due

"best of a bad bunch..." have just shake my head. Karis is riding some of the top riders in SA into the ground and no he does not claim an dprobably is not always riding the best horses.

Agree with you Mark, The academy produces good riders. A Atjebi was another who fired as an appie whilst he was here and he went on to clean up in Dubai this year.

As for role models Anton is a good start. I cant believe that anyone would think that Anton would throw a race to anyone let alone his brother. He ran fourth not a pulling second. He has also beaten his brothers horses. Ridiculous statement.

nobody questions Antons ability..rate him as 1 of the top riders..

but..like all of us..he stuffs up too..

besides...most punter were cursing him..as he was on the odds on fav..1st leg of the PA...seems the stipes were not...

today...those same punters calls him a hero...

alcaponee it is a well known fact in racing circles that the quality of jockeys the academy is producing these days has dropped big time.this is not only my opinion but the opinion of 2 of the greatest riders this country has ever produced..like i said above i dont blame the jocks but the system ..james marees riding school in my opinion is producing better riders and it amazes me that a rider like jackson feni is not given a full jockeys license..the great rider i refer to said in hs day you went to the academy to learn how to be a jockey first and then your education came second ,today its the other way round..

Andrew - Problem with racing is that we scrutinise sportsman because our bucks is on. I too went out of the PA and remember the race vividly. The statements made hinted that the race was thrown for the benefit of his brother I dont see what running 4th would have anything to do with this.

The only real cock up I've noticed with Anton was last year in the JHB season where he did not ride to the line and got caught out on the line to finish second (cant recall names). I am sure Anton will be the first admit that this was one of his bigger blunders.

There are better examples of deliberate non place getting. One of the fav moves is to ride the life out of the horse at the front of the pack only to fade into fourth or fith. Trainers should report these types of rides to the stipes.

Nothing wrong with education. Ron Dennis took Lewis Hamiltons under his wing and insisted that he receive a proper education. These sportsman have a high risk occupation and need an education to fall back on if they get seriously injured. IMO Education is key to being a balanced person. Learning to use your brain for academics surely helps with good decision making

My feeling is that Anton is so good because he generally keeps his mounts in the first five during a race - not every horse is a flaming rock or pocket power(with a devastaing finish) and his placement is what keeps his rides in the money day after day -

I have owned 11 horses over a 10 year period. I have had only one winner to date.
