As sharp as the posters are on racing (look at Hibs threat re grass gallops), that is how uninformed the posters are on the workings of the bloodstock end of things. But, this is a racing and punting site, not a bloodstock, so not all that surprising.

Barry lets be honest..you and the team you use have to be one of the best" pickers" of bloodstock on this planet..its not easy and really it has to be a full time thing..us guys who buy and then moan that we got a useless sick lame or/and lazy horse just make up the numbers..I have realised that now.

After meandering through this thread, i must say I am with Flash Harry on this one. I think guarantee perhaps a bit harsh, but would want some sort of 'performance SLA' in place......

here in is the quandary the agent takes a % of the sales price ....likes to have you buy the big lots....they don't perform you don't use him/them again but he got your tom and will get the next oke's tom next time....all I ask is to get a mention in an interview....they thank every one else....most of the time I just give a 2nd opinion but it is normally after the horse has been bought any how...and the poor fish has to live with the crap...only wanted me to make him feel like he did the right thing when clearly he did'nt...:S

Here is an interesting little story for you.

I formed racing partnerships from 1987 to 1996 and took that year off because my partner wanted to try something else, that didn't work.

Anyway, when we returned to syndicating horses and I got ready to offer the first one in 1997, some of my customers told me that I should not charge for the work I do, but only get paid bonuses if the horse worked out. So I syndicated a colt named Captain Bodgit for $500,000. My deal was that I got 20 percent of profits and a 5 percent sales commission.

Well, the colt proceeded to win the $1-million Florida Derby, the $750,000 Wood Memorial, run second in the Kentucky Derby and third in the Preakness, before we sold him for $2.5 million.

When all was said and done, I earned about $100,000 more than the partners paid for the horse.

When the horse was sold, these same customers begged me to go back to my original method, which I have been using ever since, which is to a) mark up the price of the horse initially, b) receive a 10 percent bonus on any profits and a 5 percent sales commission.

One way or another, the guy that does the work has got to be paid.

Oscar, fyi, there is no "team." It's just me and always has been just me picking these suckers out. Selecting horses is somewhat of a creative venture. Things that are done by committee by and large hurt the creative process. I like doing it alone and doing it my way.

Barry not sure if you can watch Inside Racing but the presenter asked MDK any chance of the dream clash between Igugu and EF as I know you and Justin have a bit banter. MDK says that will depend on Barry because what Barry says is what Justin will do.

The games between Justin and Mike de Kock are a laugh riot to me.

Their posturing is amusing.

Each tries to psych the other out.

Justin tries to egg Mike on into running Igugu against Ebony Flyer.

Mike has no real answer, so he tries to make Justin look like he is nothing but a mere puppet with me pulling the strings, which is totally absurd.

Mike already has made his schedule to bring Igugu up to the Met in the best possible fashion. His plan uses the Paddock Stakes and not the Queen's Plate. He has stated this a few times.

Naturally, the racing media and the fans want to see the two fillies hook up again.

But it does not appear this is going to happen in the Queen's Plate.

As I've said before, Igugu is a remarkable filly. But she is best going farther than a mile.

Ebony Flyer best at a mile.

Ebony Flyer will use a 1200-meter race as her final prep.

Can anybody imaging Igugu being effective over this trip? Hardly.

Igugu is a true 10 furlong horse with the ability to make an impact over a trip as short as a mile. But a mile is nother best trip.

Ebony Flyer is a fast horse that finds a mile to suit her perfectly.

Mike de Kock didn't get where he is today by being stoopid! He knows what is best for his horse and the fact that he chooses not to place his great Champion at a disadvantage is to his credit.

But the press will never leave it at just that...and neither will Justin, and neither will Kock, at least as long as he has the opportunity to agitate Justin!
