Is there in truth in the rumour the the competition commission is going to outlaw the Open Bet for bookmakers?

Why what loyalty do I have as a punter to the tote operator?

We can all ' bitch and moan ' but the lost revenue due to the open bet on it's own can turn our industry around. Bigger pools create more interest from punters, allow owners to race for bigger stakes and makes money available to be spent on improving Tote outlets etc. We lose hundreds of millions of rands annually. Makes you think , does it not ...

Why not reach a compromise? Tote for exotics and Bookmakers for win and place pools..
No serious punter would have a win or place bet on the tote anyway..

Why not tote for all exotics and bookies for WIN at a fixed price only...like it used to be.....read 2oceansracing comment above ....SPOT ON!...the open bet is like a cancer and no good for anyone involved in racing.

Upgrading tote facilities:
.... There are 3 tote facilities within a 10km radius of my house, over the last 20 years not ONE OF THEM has EVER been upgraded, they are run down, rude operators, filthy floors, no facilities for the punter to eat or drink etc ...when has Phumelela ever been concerned about the punter?...(

I for one don't give a shyte if the operator is bleeding or not. they don't give a shyte about the punter, jst walk into any tote, call their call centre, visiting their website, ask for info, watch telly track, the list goes on.

The crux of the matter is service, eg Interbet have a full tote service, not an open bet and I have suggested that the tote allow people that are focused on customer service to run the tote, IMO would make a massive difference with deposits/withdrawal and the general image of the tote and I am sure many others such as Hollywood would improve the image if they were dealing directly with tote punter via the tote system.
