Whilst its valuable points in the bag for the top 3, the competition is definitely not done and dusted and judging by the selection of horses that the TOP 50 have in the competition, the 2012 competition is in for a nail biting finish.

“Cargo Movers 1” freightens off opposition!

Much to the delight of a multitude of Charity Turf Challenge fans, What A Winter did the job for the Bass team when romping home in the Gr.1 Mercury Sprint and thereby taking home 20 points. Golden Horse Casino Sprint bonus winner, Delago Deluxe, continued his good run of form in the competition adding 14 points for his second place with Snowdon taking third place and another 10 points for his efforts.

But the big news of the weekend was the performance of last week’s third placed entrant, “Cargo Movers 1”, who is sitting pretty with an 11 point lead going into the final stage of the competition. Now on 240 points, “Cargo Movers 1” relies on Gorongoso in the last of the bonus races worth 25 points to the winner, the Gr.1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup, run on “Super Saturday”, the last big day of the racing season.

TOP 10 ENTRIES:

The current leader is sitting pretty with the top 2 entries, “Cargo Movers 1”, is on 240 points and relies on four horses to keep him in contention ahead of “Cargo Movers 8” who is 11 points behind and also has four horses over the final weekend. Both entries rely on Gorongosa in the Gr.1 Ladebrokes Gold Cup.Third placed “JJ The Jet Plane” will be hoping that of his 4 horses over the weekend that Blake can win the Gr.1 Ladebrokes Gold Cup and fourth placed “Connors Spur” who has three horses on “Super Saturday” relies on Seal to bag the 5 bonus points. Of the Top 10 there are only two other entries that have a realistic chance of walking away with the R100 000 should their selection in the Gr.1 Ladebrokes Gold Cup win, seventh placed “Clayton Fisher 10” with Kolkata and joint eighth placed “Cargo Movers 2” with Ilsanpietro.

During the course of “Super Saturday”, the organizers will attempt to update Tellytrack with changes to the leader board as and when they occur.

On “Super Saturday” there will be 4 spot prize draws on Tellytrack. This is a computer generated, random draw from all entrants and not dependent on points earned. Each winner will receive a R500 telephone betting deposit kindly sponsored by TAB GOLD “The Intelligent Bet”.

Terence Reddy aka “DSha” is this year’s Charity Turf Challenge Champion after his Gr.1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup pairing of Blake (Dynasty) and In Writing (Editor’s Note) earned 40 points between them. It was, however, the 10 “Long Shots” bonus points garnered by Pomodoro (Jet Master) in the Gr.1 Vodacom Durban July and In Writing in Saturday’s big race that lifted Terence to the top of the leader board and earned him the R100 000 first prize! In what turned out to be a fantastic Charity Turf Challenge for Terence, “Dsha” also took home the R20 000 stand alone prize for the entrant with the most number of points earned on Vodacom Durban July Day.

Congratulations to the top 10 finishers and prize money winners who are:

1. Dsha - 243

2. Potomac 2 - 241

3. Cargo Movers 1 - 240

4. Challas 8 - 239

5. JJ The Jet Plane - 233

Patrick Daniels 3 - 233

Logan Pillay 1 - 233

8. SM Govender 3 - 232

SM Govender 4 - 232

Brian Easthorpe 2 - 232

The Charity Turf Challenge competition was concluded on “Super Saturday” at Greyville Racecourse, featuring the final bonus race of the competition the Gr.1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup and supporting feature races the Gr.1 Champions Cup, Gr.2 Gold Bracelet, Listed Darley Arabian and Listed Umgeni Handicap. With a total of 126 points on offer for the above features, it was a grandstand finish to the 2012 competition!

In the Gr.1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup, In Writing (Editor’s Note) scored the maximum points for his followers, 25 points for first place plus an added 5 points (total 30 points) for paying over R15 on SAFtote. Master Plan won the Gr.1 Champions Cup earning 20 points and the son of Jet Master ended the CTC as the leading point’s scorer of the competition. The scratching of Beach Beauty and Ilha Bela in the the Gr.2 Gold Bracelet was a big disappointment for a few of the frontrunners in the competition and it was Happy Archer (Dubawi) who capitalised scoring 14 points. A full breakdown of the points scored on the day is as follows:

28 July Greyville Ladbrokes Gold Cup (Gr.1) IN WRITING 1st 30

PRINCESS OF LIGHT 2nd 14

BLAKE 3rd 10

Champions Cup (Gr.1) MASTER PLAN 1st 20

Darley Arabian (LR) HEAVY METAL 1st 2

Umgeni Handicap (LR) TETELESTAI 1st 2

MR 100 F&M MISS IPANEMA 1st 1

Terence Reddy aka “DSha” is this year’s Charity Turf Challenge Champion!

Going into the final day of the competition, “Stand Alone” prize winner “DSha” was on 203 points, 37 points behind the leader “Cargo Movers 1” and needed a miracle result in the Gr.1 Ladbrokes Gold Cup to stake a claim on the R100 000 first prize. Whilst his entry was well represented with 3 runners - Ilsanpietro, Blake and In Writing, he still needed the perfect result in a highly competitive race over the marathon trip of 3200m.

With In Writing (Editor’s Note) winning and Blake (Dynasty) finishing third, points scored were 25 and 10 respectively, Terrence Reddy was still short of taking the lead but a quick glance at the SAFTote board revealed that the winner was eligible for an added 5 bonus points for paying over R15

for a win! “DSha” went to the lead on 243, closely followed by “Potomac 2”, another big mover who also scored 40 points with the same 2 selections.

“Cargo Movers 1” failed to score any points in the Gold Cup, remaining on 240 points in third place but all was not lost for Nandha Naidoo as he looked to be in the box seat with 2 runners in the Gr.1 Champions Cup, Chesalon and Tales Of Bravery. Terrence Reddy relied on Chesalon and, Kevin van Niekerk, aka “Potamac 2” relied on Tales Of Bravery. However, as it turned out both Chesalon and Tales Of Bravery ran unplaced and with the scratching of Beach Beauty and Ilha Bela in the Gr.2 Gold Bracelet, “Dsha” was crowned 2012 Champions Season CHAMPION adding R100 000 to the R20 000 he also won in the “Stand Alone” prize on Vodacom Durban July Day. CONGRATULATIONS to Terrence Reddy and the TOP 10 finishers!
