And Mr Hawaii - how much of that R1.30 goes back to racing? It is not even their product!

I completely disagree with the general sentiment of the replies in this thread...
Bookies must not have any dealings with anyone that can influence the result of a race.

Hibs replied to a posting of mine a little back and everybody here needs to go read it...
'go to youtube and search bent racing'

Let us not confuse the general negative sentiment towards Phumelela with what is good for racing. This is the correct thing to do... no jockey, bookmaker, trainer should be lining each others pockets... it could possibly lead towards corruption. Surely common sense must prevail here and we should agree this is a good thing in principle..

I know a lot of people in the industry need the support but this must then surely lead to a greater amount of pressure being applied on Phumelela to start looking after racing and the people that own and train and ride and administer the horses.
Attack the tote... that is the cash cow. Get it to partly and wrestle control from them.

Is Soccer the tote's product? And rugby?
I started punting at the tote 30 plus years ago - Poor service and poor understanding of the client drove me to the Bookies -

Pirates - your call where you bet, BUT if it wasn't for the ego owners you wouldn't be betting on racing! This f&*%ing sport as you call it is in anycase sponsored by the owners, trainers and jockeys. Just try and find out who are the biggest punters in this sport....

Homer would you support Betfair in SA(if they were bound to give a % of turnover to Racing) - My understanding is that they too would not be able to sponsor a trainer

Why don't bookies sponsor their punters with a free beer and a meal on race weekends instead of sponsoring trainers/ jockeys. Their attitude is fcuk the punter, he is cash cow.
Bookies with integrity my arse!!

Racing is an insiders' game.

And, it is perceived as such.

For racing to encourage participation of punters, it must take every step to show that the sport is above board.

Cozy relationships between bookies and participants in racing is sending the opposite message.

People that cannot understand this simply WILL NOT understand this, as they either are insiders themselves or something else that I cannot state without insulting their intelligence.

Pirates - nobody is telling you where to bet - as I said in my previous post. You complain about the gap in stakes and the cost of a horse - this should never be an issue. You buy a horse to enjoy, win that BIG race or what ever your reason. Stakes and the cost of a horse cannot be linked - and am surprised as an owner you have such a strong case for Bookies! They steal from this Industry....
