please barry a lot of your thoughts are archaic about racing ...should bookmakers also be banned from owning horses?should we have 24 hour surveilance that bookies do not talk to any trainers or jockeys?

Betfair are not bookmakers..........they faciltate "person to person" gambling just like the tote.
That was clarified by the recent gambling commission.

Gregbucks - No - I don't think these big punters place their bets with the Tote. And this is where the concern is - a lot of 'good' money ends up in the wrong place and very little finds it way back to racing.

homer you want to see stealing then i suggest you do a full survey of the racing industry run by yr heroes phumgold now that to me would be daylight robbery ie racecourses sold for zip money given to finance the grooms disapearing ,and the biggest robbery of the lot dividends payed to shareholders every year and not put back into racing ...remember bookies take major risks and stand horses and plenty have been stuck out whereas the tote are merely a facilitator and take a major chop out of each pool...

this maybe breaking news to some...but my bookie gives me back ...3% of turnover..and i usually take it in december... i go on holiday with that money....spoke to JEREMY MARSHALL A WHILE AGO about giving an incentive back to his account holders..he is thinking about it...and that incentive will be very well received ..i think...
the only restriction is that they are calculated on bets over even money...he caught onto me..calling the ludicrous bets like 1000/10000 on a soccer match...or rugby match etc...and making an extra R300 on the deal,,,,,,the commision is calulated daily...so there are no conflicts later

Barry do me a favour please next time you are in South Africa take a trip to a few Totes in Gauteng and then go into Keith Ho or Holly Wood and see who treats the customers better - Punters have to beg for betting slips in totes and deal with tellers eating greasy chicken while they take your bets - No toilets, eating facilties etc - Now you arte worried Racing won't grow because new punters might think it's bent?
I'm always amazed when the July comes around and the day trippers walk into the tote and are so lost you know that next year they just won't bother

Pirates - I am not supporting everything Phum does nor the RA for that matter and have done so in public. The issues you raised stink in my book but to look away or run to alternatives does not exist with me. As you know a big cut of the Tote turnover goes to stakes and to me it makes sense to support them 1st.

Those useless greedy pigs of operators should try and put right in racing what the fcuked up themselves instead of making petty spiteful liitle rulings.

i agree homer but UNTIL THE BIG WIGS AT PHUM GOLD RAISE THEIR GAME TO THE LEVELS OF THEIR COMPETITION i and many other s will keep away from them..its no use blaming it all on the open bet and waiting for the law to change abt it...they refuse to admit their service and facilities are up to shit...i used to exclusively bet with natal telebetting but stopped 3 years ago and guess what TILL THIS DAY I HAVENT RECIEVED ONE PHONE CALL SAYING HI MR WITZ WHY HAVE YOU STOPPED BETTING WITH US ?in any other NORMAL SERVICE INDUSTRY I WOULD HAVE HAD A CALL A MONTH AFTER NOT BETTING WITH THEM...iv tried to approach the authorities on many issues that punters are not happy with and all i have had is doors closed in my face...iv tried homer but the people who so call run the industry do not care
