Nice to know that bookies are giving back to punters.
I use to punt at Marshals in Gordons Bay, didn't even get a stretch!!

Why does someone not do the following:

Build two world class racecourses with an African glint not necessarily in RSA.
Create world class facilities for trainers, patrons and owners.
Create franchised betting shops southern Africa wide. Offer some freebie(paid by bookies) to incentavize the masses. Drawing them away from Phum and betting world and others..
Get all independent bookmakers to solely offer on these courses eventually.
Offer sponsorships to business on the marketing and social perspectives.

Etc etc
Go speak to Sol Kerzner... or any casino in the desert town of Vegas..sh#t into diamonds..
Combine racetrack with other forms of entertainment... nightlife, family accommodation..restaurants, sport.. gambling

Or go speak to Sun International and have a course built at Sun City.

Africa is ready for a new racing capital.. but the industry must be transparent and well regulated.. No more inside info ... ub40, queen, and adam and the ants died there too..people don't spend their money where they know the are the #unts and not the kings..for that we pay tax

Absurd ruling by the NHA that perceptually brings into question the integrity of our trainers by suggesting that public sponsorship could compromise their ethics and better judgement. I wonder what EPL managers would have to say would the same logic be applied in football or in fact any manager in professional sport anywhere!!!

We recently sponsored the Bulls, 4 million supporters and yes a few have written to complain that now the Bulls are going to throw games for Voltbet. The key is a few, 1-2 letters that in every instance we have managed to convince that their views are absurd and borne out of ignorance of sports betting. All the NHA are confirming in their approach is that Horse Racing is an amateur sport that has no idea how to turn professional, or perhaps the operators who fund the NHA are driving this in their own interests?

Whatever the reasons all I keep hearing is the operators hit single "blame it on the bookmaker"

Heres a question for the NHA, given this ruling, should trainers integrity also be "protected" from owners? Surely owners could apply undue influence over a trainer were they proportionally significant in the earnings of stable, could this not yield the same results as in the case of a bookmaker? If so then perhaps a maximum revenue % should be set by the NHA in terms of which a trainer could not accept horses beyond this threshold from a single owner!
Absurd? Yes!
Different from the bookmaker logic? No

Go figure!

Hi Barry, I agree that the Bookmakers do come up with odds that are normally pretty close to how good the 1st timers are. No one has ever phoned me and I know when I was with Alistair he was never phoned either by any bookmaker. That to me would be too obvious so I suspect that they are possibly getting the info (and probably paying for it) on the side and nothing as obvious as having to sponsor trainers to get their info. Even though I am being sponsored by Winning Form it has not made 1 bit of difference in the way I answer any questions about my horses and they have not asked me to keep the same info I give them to myself.
