At the end of the day one just has to look at the relationship tensions between all the parties..trainers/vets/jockeys/owners/handicappers/administrators/breeders/punters/bookmakers/grooms..etc etc

I have always maintained that Bookmakers dont do enough re contributions to our stakes pool etc but when we stop them investing under the guise that it will improve racings image then it becomes ridiculous...
Give everything but up!

Oscar - very true! Lot of tension in this Industry and no light at the end of the tunnel. A good leader is needed to pull this out of the fire, but sadly there is no one holding office currently who has the balls....

Why is it not a conflict of interest when jockeys that are paid retainers from a certain stable ride for the opposition?

My 2 cents worth : Don't recall Syd Laird, Terence Millard, Herman Brown, Jean Heming stables sponsored by bookies so life should go on.See that Ladbrokes is sponsoring the Gold Cup in Durban this year.
I really don't know how much business Ladbrokes in S.A. but perhaps other bookmaking firms cud follow suit and sponsor feature races IMHO?

What about presenters that are aligned to stables, surely this is a conflict of interest, after all they could mislead the public (real or perceived).....
