I doubt it - This guy is a world renowned athlete that is recognizable anywhere in the world - he also uses prosthetic limbs so that would set off an alarm at an exit point at an airport- Bail is not a punishment - he could get R10 bail and still would not be able to flee the country

why? What would that achieve except to be seen to be judging him. If it were not Oscar but a man that had shot his wife in anger would he too have to pay a Million as he would be more of a fight risk being an unknown without prosthetics ? This is Bail not a Judgment on the trial.

Mr. H bail here in the US is set by the government. If you commit a misdemeanor you will pay a certain amount depending on the actual charge, if you commit a felony (of which murder is) then you will pay a certain amount, doesn't matter if youre going to feel or have the propensity to or not.
Your bail is set according to the crime you commit. IMO if youre going to kill someone (and I'm not saying it was premeditated) then you have to pay what is considered fair to get out of the pokey, it has nothing to do with Oscar being able to afford bail or not......
Pay what you owe to get your tail out of jail. If you can't pay or can't raise a bond then you go to prison until your hearing......it's how things work.
Oscar got a BIG break today and our legal system took a little shiner to the eye if you ask me. Magistrate Nair made a mockery of the judicial process by "hamming" up the process the way he did. Perhaps he needed more Facebook friends, I don't know.
Also the way that Both handled the initial investigation and thereafter was HANDLED by the police......the world didn't get to see us at our best unfortunately.

Yes Tommy this is South Africa and those are the rules we live by. The USA or Britain or Zim Legal Systems have no bearing here .. I cannot comment on what the Judge said as I did not hear it.
