I gave up the notion of retiring on a P6 payout many many moons ago and started playing small with %......in 2002 I got a 15% of a R660K payout for a R54 layout and is to date my biggest win.....I have caught a big one every year since but with much smaller % but with a much bigger investment.....I have not shaped in the last 2 years and more recently find that I have to cut horses with upset probability just to stay in a budget and get a 1%.....those that I have cut have arrived costing me a payout.....my biggest wins were also the result of utilizing scratchings and couplings now with coupling falling in the way I would have to increase stake and have no budget.....I will then only play on carry over days.....and not feed the daily pools.....:S

Open bet allows you to take less than 1%, doesn't it?

The big companies that are supposedly laying the open bet are managing accounts very closely these days.If you are a nett winner, even more so.Players that show a nett profit on tote bets might as well be putting their bets on the tote themselves,as the bookmakers are anyway.

Winners in this game are few and far between, but there are some.
What's the point of playing the open bet, when all you are actually doing is allowing the person monitoring your account the opportunity to increase his own income by phoning his mates with your 'business'.
Of course the new p6 rules are going to suit the big players.Just like in all walks of life, money goes to money.
It's just another naievity if you believe otherwise.

My comment was tongue-in-cheek aimed at Saftote which seems inadequate in accepting bets of less than 1%. Best they look into this before losing more customers.

Re: Re: Pick 6 rules changes

I love to to punt and have always been a small time punter. The rule changes in the Jackpot made it interesting to me and it is a bet I concentrate on mainly...but it is now a much more difficult bet.My strike rate is probably around 50% if I wager to win between 40 - 70% of the payout and about 75% if I bet to win a minimum of 20% of the payout.
When the pick six costs was 10c per unit, I made an absolute killing because I played to win no more than 40% of the payout and with the average payout at the time around R25k and my strike rate around 70% is was great fun.
At R1-00 a unit the bet required a bigger layout for a return of between 10 - 20% and it was still profitable but a lot harder to catch.
The new rule change on a personal level will probably me see giving up on this bet because unless you from a syndicate it will become a bit like the lotto for the small punter...you play without really thinking that you'll win.
...And to Harry Hotspur...the smaller punter generally lays out quite a bit more than R6-00 on the pick 6.
Now if the rule change was made and the cost per unit was dropped to 50c it would still be really hard to win but at least it would not make it quite as obvious that the rule have been made probably by a big player in the interest of big players.

jap so what is different. if you punt fixed odds they take back if they feel is risky. also if you win to much they limit you.

with a strike rate on jackpots at 50percent and on p6s at 70 percent it should make no difference to you at all what the unit cost is...thats the greatest strike rate iv ever come across on any bets never mind pots and p6s
