The difference is they are taking my tote bets back anyway, why would I want to put them on somewhere when I know the whole of Chatsworth is going to know my business in 5 minutes anyway. That's happening with my fixed odds bets already,it's just with the tote bets I at least have the alternative of the tote where my business will remain confidential.

Won't go lower than 1% - a man has his pride

So it will definitely stop me from going with a R100 perm, to 'chase the dream' with a lousy 10 bucks every now and then - and I know the operators really won't miss the difference in my contribution, but maybe if another 100 punters react in the same way I do, it could be a different story :S

By the sound of things the jpot pools will increase, being a jpot player I'm all for the change

The fact still remains that the changes to the P6 rule were done without much thought nor consultation and under the guise that it was to attract international co-mingling pools.... yet to do so the 1st timer rule would also have to be scrapped.....so as they say is the thin edge of the wedge....if they do not sacrifice too much of the pool turnover then the next step is as mentioned....instead of trying to re-invent the bet look at a different bet.....6 leg bi-pot no couplings.....:
....phase out the P6 at PE and the groot gat and offer this to negate the many couplings at these centres only....

Re: Re: Pick 6 rules changes

Around 1983/84 the pick6 cost 50c a line and there was no fractional betting
I won R760 odd for a layout of only R6...a full bet
My bet was 4horses/b/b/b/b/3horses....12 combinations
Felix won the first leg on a 9/10 fav.....20 horses ran
Karl won the last leg on a 9/2 shot .....12 horses ran
At the same time there were guys making a killing out of the pick6,winning over R1m pools
What happened next?
The operators got greedy!
They reduced the stake to 10c to get more players
That was'nt good enough,they now had more p6 players [R6 punters]...[suckers]
Then they upped the stake to R1 a unit and lost some of those R6 punters,
Why?
Again, they got more greedy, and converted those R6 punters to....R20 punters:S
Now they believe they will make it more attractive by making it more difficult?
IMHO I don't think it will work, they will lose more than they will gain
Simply because I don't believe you can convert a BEETLE to a PORCHE
But hey!
We CAN dream!

Hi Rashid,
I agree. Most of my friends playing the P6 is going to shy away and rather concentrate on the P/A and ATC bets.

I cannot explain it better than this analogy....
100 punters at R50....R5000
if they bet P6, Jackpot, PA....you still only have 100 punters with R50 ....

the stupidity of this approach is that the tote relies on turnover - it is far better to have 1000 ticket winners reinvesting than 1 winner that take a huge amount out of the gambling pie - The best situation for the tote is to churn over average dividends rather than to have one lubriciously large dividend

There are payout limits imposed by most open bet operators ( on the P6 i think it is 500k).
A big player will have to analyse the card and decide if there is a possibility of a payout being over 500k or even a carryover.
In this instance it is almost always better to do the "new style" P6 on the tote. I do the same for the big meetings during the year like the July , Gold Cup Met etc.
I hope that the operators raise these limits to at least 1bar in the future.

What I hope for, and I stress hope, is that huge pools lead to new punters being pulled into the game.
