I remember one particular day at Pmb watching Ronnie Hammer in action.

!st race of the day he pulled R40,000 cash out of the hidden pockets in his specially tailored famous BLUE suit............his horse got beat so he had to go and top up from the boot of his car............... the next bet won................he then paroled onto the third (all Cunningham horses in his colours) when that one won he went to collect and bookmakers wanted to give him cheques ..................his retort "you don't take my cheques ,I don't take yours"......lol

They had to borrow cash from the tote to settle!

Rob,

I agree but when the analyst thinks he has found the angle then he steams in , she drifted.

I am just highlighting the lack imo of betting moves in handicaps in sa. Is it because of bookmaker fear, handicap incorrectness, horse inconsistency?

Absolutely...................R40,000 took a lot of space in those days....4000 notes as I don't think even R20 notes were in circulation yet ?.....B)-

Just my point of view is that a big gambler is a person whose gambling ratio is high to what he earns. So if you gambling 100% of your income after paying you accounts, you are a big player cos thats the most you can spend, be it you earning R10 000 or R50 000

many people i now laugh when i say i punt big thirty plus year ago. today you no got the chance with the accountants. i give you the example of what punting is like when you have book maker and not little gray men who now nothing about making the book. in early 80's i think 82 or 83 the good friend of me, costa economides is having a horse that is run at newmarket. he is the first timer and he is with syd laird. costa horse is no fancied but in the ring syd say to hem back the stable companion that bartie is on it wont lose. i almost knock people over when i am run from the ring to the bookies is next to each other. The horse is 5/2 and I go to Les Kourie who I have the account with. I ask for 50000/20000. He say do you want it again Mike? I do so I have 100000/40000. The horse start 14/10 and win by six lengths, I remember hem like it is yesterday. the horse is call statue of liberty he win many races. today you have no chance of put that bet
