I mentioned before somewhere just before Fritz Roux was warned off my late mate Aubrey Upton had a yankee on four horses in PE X500 Prices was all over 12/1 first three shat in fourth one was Jack Dan ran 3rd or fourth he stood to win over 6M still collected just under500000 ,trust me there is still bookmakers that dont blink to lay these type of bets.I raced Western Walk with him and the day he won the Gold Bowl at 33/1 he had 20000 on it the relevant bookie didnt even shorten it;-).

Aubrey was a cattle farmer used to get up at 5 went to look at his cattle and go and sit in his local pub and punting his settlement Tuesdays was seldom less than a 100000 (in cash) he laughed it off and made 5 fold that out of his cash sales of sheep goats and cattle in Silverton.

His favorite song after a bottle of vodka? Ou Ryperd;-) RIP my naughty friend

......funny thing, Charl Pretorius interviewed Mrs Hemming in the UK when he had Freeracer website.....she confessed and named the substance she used in conjunction with a local vet.....I have since forgotten its name....but at the time researched the hell out of it......there is no way it could have improved or enhanced any horses to make them run better.....it was actually something that could have been more detrimental to health and performance.....:S

Flash Aubrey was one of a sort -Uli was one of his bookies ,yes you are right Uli won that case. Honest truth Aubrey phoned me up to 10 times a day about horses not punting just sharing what he knew up to the day before he passed away he took a bet ;-) he was really what you see is what you get .When he passed on I took over all his horses(very slow ones like him;-) ) yet his biggest dream was to breed with Shee''s Gone West and she had her first foal on 18 November 2013 by Bold Silvano a stunning horse I flew to PE in December to see her and I want to call her Aubrey''s Girl after my wonderfull mate

Sir with respect that is the not the truth

on page 50 Jean said quote from the book LEGENDS OF THE TURF and giving Charl the credit
"I can sate categorically that no horse in my stable was ever "doped" to win a race,or 'nobbled' as they say.The only pre-race preparation administered in my training programmer was the process of 'drenching' to hydrate horses that were dehydrated.
Post race treatments very important. I used Bykahepar, Ringers Lactate or Synthemin drops to help my runners to recover after their races and to reduce their lactic acid levels.
To avoid a horse suffering dry sweat it is necessary to keep it hydrated. It is against my principles and common sense to use diurectics to dehydrate them before racing "

nowhere in the whole article from page 41 to 56 she admits to anything as suggested by you.

Easy - you're right. Still big action on sport. Only the nutters 'go big' on racing. The rest of us 'go home'. Simply because in sport no team I backed has ever failed to come out of the dressing room ( ie stood in the stalls ). Uncontrollable risks too high in racing for intelligent punting.

My biggest ever horse bet was R 225,000 ON Dancing Duel in the 1993 July. Felt sick afterwards - even though it won. Never repeated that type of bet on a horse after I had 'sobered up'. In purchasing power that would be massive today.

Have had a couple of R1 million bets on rugby matches although prices have been prohibitive. Yet to back a 'loser' at that level.

Also have had one R500,000 bet on a cricket match. ( About 10 years ago when SA were playing the Windies in the Caribbean. We batted first and posted a score 60 runs greater than the biggest total ever successfully chased on that particular ground. The 'half time' quote was 1/5 SA. I thought it should have been 1/20. I even asked for confirmation before placing the bet. Windies were 'all out' about 120+ runs short of the requirement. Wish all major strikes were that stress free.

Golden punting rule - play to YOUR opinion and not someone else's. Which is why I never follow tipsters. In any event - wouldn't you feel embarrassed doing your life on a Julie Alexander or Rod McCurdie tip!!!!

My betting mantra has always been : Sooner or later it will all come down to one bet. For most punters that event usually happens unexpectedly when they are 'chasing' at the tail end of a bad day. |When they review the wreckage they cannot believe how they spiralled into self destruction.

Prominent bookmaker once told me : How do you 'get out of it' ? Answer : You pay on Monday.

Having said all of the above - There is no greater thrill!
