Dave because it`s a handicap,i would think that it`s very hard for many one time winners to have ran in the race

This issue with handicapping is complicated by the one thing that appears to be too common..................blaming the handicappers for the system(a bit like blaming the judiciary for the laws).
The one area of the NHA who do a very good job in a non-exact science is the handicappers ,IMO !
I happen to personally not like the MR as a system as I prefer to see good horses win more races than mediocre ones, and I don't like to see handicapping taking the place of getting horses to racing fitness and I don't think that an industry that already suffers mistrust should have a system that is open to manipulation etc etc etc.
A solution,in theory, would be the majority of races (other than maidens) being banded condition races, but that would be a problem as trainers will not wish to run runners under sufferance(in the Race figure days most didn't know and there were no other kind of races anyway-there were no true handicaps under those rules)
The answer probably does lie somehow in the programming, though.

GB are you not thinking of Illustrador, if so, that won the Guineas before going into the July but may have been a two or three time winner when going into the July

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.
