A win pool of about R25O,OOO
and a Trifecta pool of about R46O,OOO---, no quartets yet those days......................wow, and to think it was only KZN monies, no Saftote commingling etc.

Of course it was the biggest race meeting on the Clairwood Park calendar and the Bookies would have done a roaring trade on the day too.(:D

Some names are protected, ie Sea Cottage, Politician etc. You can't reuse breeding stallions names. Breeding mares names can't be re used for 20years. Others can be used after 15 years.

Some horses really touch race fans, and it's been known for their children to be named after their equine heroes..

Mr.Harold Stein from Newmarket named he's son Frankel

I'm sure I read that Mr Ormonde Ferraris was named after the 1912(?) Grand National winner Ormonde! :-)

And also that Mondeor, a Joburg southern suburb, is a deliberate anagram of the same horse.

Isn't there a suburb in the south also called Ormonde

Except that the 'Ormond' in Ferraris is spelt without an e at the end.

Bob, you need to put up Shared Belief win at Del Mar yesterday. Undefeated in 6 starts now. Also the day before, VE Day won at Saratoga beating other Grade 1 winners including a namesake here in BAYERN.

Well I see a horse carded in the Vaal today in race 3 by the name of Lacroix. Well its not named after the French and ex Sharks player Thierry Lacroix thats for sure! Well this name Lacroix has brought back memories as in the 90's a horse with the exact same name, Lacroix, won the Rupert Ellis Brown Plate for D Heming at the now defunct Clairwood Park. The Rupert Ellis Brown is synonymous for Illustrador who won this race over 1200m before winning the July and Gold Cup all in the same season within 3 months of each other. I think it ran 3rd in the Mainstay won by the ill fated Face North. Past winners of the Rupert, were Bush Telegraph, Divine Act and Signor Amigo. Nostalgic memories indeed, maybe its not so bad to name horses after other horses cause it bring back good times, only joking.

P.S. In the last month I have seen the new Enforce run - The old Enforce was a sire and a top division horse who was Trained by Brown Snr.

Midnight Run - The old Midnight Run was a strong front runner trained by Chris Snaith
