Race 1 Today Turffontein. Two fillies names repeated which I fondly remember in the 1990's

Lady Lexington - Hard knocking filly who place in numerous features including the Computaform Sprint

Vistula - Won the SA Guineas which was then a Grade 1 beating Outstanding Star (Broodmare of Kapil). Vistula dam, Volga, produced Gauteng Guineas winner Muscovy and smart filly Yasnaya.

Going through the results at Durbanville today and see a huge outsider won Alter Ego.

In the 1990's the original Alter Ego that I know off, won what is now the Post Merchants beating Marie Galante and Blushing Star. Blushing Star won the Computaform Sprint. Marie Galante won the SA Fillies Sprint twice and was famously the favorite when beaten at Durbanville, todays track, by Empress Club over 1000m setting a course record then.

This was before my time. Was about 6 years when he raced. Man of Property was a sire as well and in 1990's produced top division horses in Cape Town like Gay Hussar, Marlagain and Masai Mara, thats how it rang a bell to me. All sire names should be protected in my opinion.

After noticing its name last week, I checked my records and seen that Man of Property ran second to Turncoat in the Cape Guineas sponsored by Richlieu.

There is horse making its debut today, High Born.

In the late 1990's, James Goodman had a horse called Highborn (One word). It was by Jungle Warrior. After running in open company as a 2yo, it then lined up on July day in the Grade 1 2yo feature which it won at any old price with Figueroa in the saddle. Had a bet on it and went out the Jackpot one leg which paid over R40 000. Left out the second favorite Donatella who won the Garden Province. Had the favorite, Golden Braids and Indiscreet Fantasy. Wonderful memories. Highborn did win the Gauteng Guineas as a 3yo.

James Goodman also had another Jungle Warrior progeny named Jungle Junction. It won the same day that Highborn won the feature but in Gauteng.
