Well its not named after the French and ex Sharks player Thierry Lacroix thats for sure! Well this name Lacroix has brought back memories as in the 90's a horse with the exact same name, Lacroix, won the Rupert Ellis Brown Plate for D Heming at the now defunct Clairwood Park. The Rupert Ellis Brown is synonymous for Illustrador who won this race over 1200m before winning the July and Gold Cup all in the same season within 3 months of each other. I think it ran 3rd in the Mainstay won by the ill fated Face North. Past winners of the Rupert, were Bush Telegraph, Divine Act and Signor Amigo. Nostalgic memories indeed, maybe its not so bad to name horses after other horses cause it bring back good times, only joking.
Lacroix is a fairly common name and in my basic understanding of the French language it means "the cross".....There was indeed a horse by the same name trained by Jean Heming a 7 time winner by Lost Chord... but I doubt that it won the Rupert Ellis Brown Plate but the race you may be referring to... was the Byerly Turk Plate on the 1st of May 1993.....

Golden Globe I see caused a real upset winning at the Vaal today at any price. Rewind back to the glorious 90's in fact 1995 when the old Golden Globe caused a major upset in winning the Germiston November Handicap. Good memories

If you do a search on
www.pedigreequery.com/
you will find another SEA COTTAGE and COLORADO KING both bred by Australians subsequent to our champions. Yet it was the Aussies who cried foul when we named a filly BLACK CAVIAR and public opinion forced the owner to change her name. We really do relent to any shit. Rats man...

WHY would they allow RIO DE LA PLATA, the original ( 3 x grade1 winner and multiple grade2 and 3 wins) was racing only 3 years ago ?

Theres a horse currently named Golden Man trained by G Maroun. About 20 years ago there was a horse also Golden Man who was a Grade 1 winner if I am not mistaken also owned by the Maroun's.

There is a runner at Scotsville Race 1 named Free State. In the 1990''s I remember a sire called Free State who produced Grade 1 Gold Cup winner Stateway who came from Port Elizabeth to win in 1994 for Andre Hoffman and Arthur Miller. That sire Free State came from the UK though but also stood in South Africa. So a Grade 1 producing sire name can be replicated grrrr and it was not even 20 years when the new Free State was foaled after Stateways win.

There is a horse making its debut today Ace Pilot in Greyville Race 7. In the 1980's there had a horse also named Ace Pilot who won couple of features. I can remember Ace Pilot beating Blue Cossack in the Mainstay Trial and then Blue Cossack going onto win the Mainstay itself. Ace Pilot also ran second the year before that to Jungle Warrior in the Mainstay. Jungle Warrior was also a Cape Derby and Met Winner. Nostalgic memories, but getting spoilt with repeat of horses names...
