Ok, this is now seriously taking the piss...
I go through this post from time to time, tut-tutting but now they have crossed the line.
Smackeroo
This horse sums up all my early days of horse racing in SA. SPRINTING LEGEND FOR ME.
Shame on all those who desecrate the memories of champs.
No wonder they will never rise to the heights of the original.
Spoilt my weekend.

Apologies to Pirates.. just seen your earlier post.
Already spotted.

It's like asking your wife to have her name changed to Pamela Anderson and expecting her to instantly lose 10kg and grow supersized boobs.... I think any horse that wins a GR 1 should have it's name retired in at least it's home country. I do not understand the logic behind this. Surely with all the new words that have been brought to life through technology and the internet a little imagination can be applied to naming new horses? (Google me, Jpeg, Snowden etc)

You must be thinking of Enchanted Garden. Ran third in the 1986 July. Won the SA Oaks and the Natal Oaks.

I suppose it would be an expensive exercise but I'm sure you could trademark a horse name... but the simple and cheapest way is for the NHRA to make a rule change as it is their job to protect the integrity of the sport.

100% - the problems lies with them there is no way around this. Every horse named by breeders or owners has to be approved by the Jockey Club. It would be simple for them to make a rule that disallows the naming of any horse with an identical name for either a set period ( 20 years or more I would say ); and disallow the naming of a horse with black type indefinitely. There are infinite names owners can choose, it is disrespectful to steal the name of a champion. End of.
