Replication of Horses Names

In the second race Scotsville there's a horse name "Heir to Riches". In the late 1980's I must have been 10 or so but I can clearly remember a horse name Heir to Riches being a top division horse and running in number of features as well as winning a race in PE, maybe even ran in the July. I for one if I have a top division horse or a horse that has won numerous times would not like the name to be replicated years later. Its just not racing has it diminishes nostalgic memories of a bygone era. Clearly the naming panel in South Africa should have hindsight in this matter plus this particular runner the new Heir to Riches was bred by the Scott bros so with a breeder like that thet could have known better.

I am under correction for the periods:

A horse cannot be named after a plodder/gelding/other/etc: seven years
After a mare/stallion: twenty years
After a champion: never (Heir To Riches was a good horse but not a champion)

Nope...........................you are correct, was trained by big Ralph Rixon. The horse ran a good placing in the Clairwood Winter H'cap which was won by Jungle Warrior , but Mac points out correctly he was not a Champ.:)

Well I am 35 now but its that era of racing from 1985 onwards until around 1993 got me hooked on racing as I can remember these horse running. Plus read lots of stories from the 70's and 80's about SA horseracing so I can recall their names but never saw them race, but did see videos and pictures of them.
