Re: Trouble in PE

Perhaps in my naivety, I see it from a very different angle to most I think. I have often heard it said that, just as an example, an MR80 at other turf centres, generally have much stronger fields than an MR80 field in PE. This to me is thus not fair competition when trainers from these other centres send raiders, it is giving freebies to them and a few smart ones have seen the opportunity and taken advantage. There is also a "future" problem, if these stronger stables keep winning a disproportionate percent of the races then indeed some PE stables will close. And the likelihood is their better horses will go to the raiding trainers. And it will continue in that way until there are insufficient trainers to keep PE racing a viable option. The centre will close and the raiders will return to their origins, no problem for them. That is not a good scenario. Not only would the centre be lost but so would the opportunity of those horses who have failed to make the grade in the stronger centres. I was partly under the impression that was an accepted side of PE racing, ie they take the horses that are struggling elsewhere. If horses who they previously struggled against then come, when their trainers see fit, to PE then these horses will also struggle in PE. Yes competition is good and right (and perhaps certain PE stables who are perhaps making the biggest noises here should be restricted themselves to one runner per race so they too don't get too big for their boots!!) but is the current situation good for PE racing overall and with the future considered? As I say, I may be way off the mark and am happy for people to tell me so, but from my somewhat potentially ignorant point of view, I see raiders at possibly being the death of PE racing in years to come. If they were to re-evaluate the horses so there were not these easy pickings so to speak for raiders then that could improve matters.

Of those three trainers mentioned, the OUTSIDERS as it seems, they have hardly been running of with the treasure.
Snaith, one winner from seven last week at Fairview
Kotzen no winners from six in last 2 Fairview meets
Bass best place was a 5th from 3 mounts
But you can guarantee some local trainers will have multiple entries in a race and win with the biggest priced one.

DTF, I didn't look at the stats (surely only plastics do that!! lol), I took the article for granted which on reading implied that these sat stables or raiders were taking more than their fair share of the spoils. If it is not, then what the fark are people complaining about lol and I withdraw my comments (at least until they are more relevant!)

You also need to remember that there are PE residents that can't get boxes
So must be frustrating when satellite yards keep chugging in the cattle train

Dave it's not easy to raid in SA
Most trainers rent stables from the operators and there are long waiting lists for boxes in most regions

Not too sure why we are calling them raiders.....all 3 trainers have fully fledged operational stables in PE.....
Next thing Dennis Drier won't be allowed to come to Cape Town for the season?
Since PE has opened up to others racing has flourished in all aspects....

As per my W.Form/S . post interview of a few months ago, I believe that we Trainers, countrywide, are in for some big pressure and some radical adjustment is necessary.
I am against any and all protectionism. The best , qualified horses must run in every race and the weaker, non competitive ones must retire, if not viable or acceptable to wait for races.
Cape Town remains a mystery though. Most of the year they don't fill their fields..... yet they have the biggest number of "raiding" trainers countrywide. The spend , per horse, by the Capetonians is considerably higher than any other centre, so they have quality horses and are always going to be hard to beat.
Ultimately, it's about the Owners and if they are happy to race in PE or anywhere else with their Trainer, then they should be allowed equal opportunity.
Up here in Gauteng, we are in our Season. It's tough. Have a look at the quality of horses stepping out right now. Many of us smaller yards find it tough. We are bumping maidens which have big careers ahead of them. We just have to adjust and plan around this, our annual 6 month Season.
And we must be sure that we will be able to get some stakes back for our Owners in the weaker Season, with every horse. If not, the horse must go......or the Owner will !
It's tough everywhere, not only in Racing. It's time for the best muti of all, we need to use GOYA. ... Get Off Your Arse ! It works!
We must just work harder, plan better, that's all.
