This thing about the Snaith yard being there a long time etc... is the point not more that yes, he has a stable there but, despite that, he quite often "raids" with horses that regularly run in other centres... ie on the point of this unequal MR rating between PE and other centres he still uses the centre for "easy pickings" when he sees a good opportunity, that has been my impression anyway. I don't knock them for that, it is the smart move but I also still think this issue of MR ratings has to be sorted so that everyone is playing on the same level. I agree with Dorrie about Pemba and Mr H about the extra leg :)

Isn't the simple solution to build more stable blocks?

At the risk of being accused of being a dinosaur - there is one very simple solution

BRING BACK THE RACE FIGURE SYSTEM!

Just one observation.............the 2 "big" stables involved in the move are interesting as you will note in their interviews ,they are definitely putting lots of food on the table, so things can't be too tough!! :woohoo:

KZN Racing should take a bow!! How they have survived the onslaught from the visitors year in and year out and still managed to continue is mind-boggling.

Just to show as an example from the limited statistics available regarding ONE visiting stable from the Cape.................................

The late Harwyn Witherspoon wrote regarding Terence Millard...................

" Having made considerable inroads into the Natal province's stakes towards the latter part of April, the 8 weeks of racing from mid-June through to the last Champions Stakes meeting saw the Millard stable lift 10 of the 21 Feature events along with 13 other money-earners for receipts of R936,OOO---, or 58 % OF THE TOTAL PRIZE MONEY ON OFFER FOR THE SEASON, for which Millard stable reprsentatives competed.

When one considers that the stable had no runners in 6 of the 21 stakes events for the season, then the success rate was 66.66 %!!!"

Now imagine that 2/3rds of the prize -money went to ONE visiting stable.

And we haven't yet brought in the other visitors.................Rixon, Kannemeyer, Snaith, and the Transvaal raiders headed by Jean Heming.

Mikesack, it still puzzle's many as to why Mr Millard stopped training. I think he was only 1 July behind the legendary Syd Laird and then stopped training. PE is right, they must look after their loyal owners before anything else. As Mark says" local is lekker"

Lot's will disagree with this... maybe it has something to do with higher turnovers.
If I recall correctly, those were the days that racing payouts were "provincial". Higher turnovers meant bigger takeouts and therefore KZN survived.
