You could say the outcome of the hearing was a "Slap on the wrist"

I am no lawyer so maybe somebody who does know could explain it.

The instigator hurled ABUSE.

Larry retaliated with ASSAULT.

Have I got this right?

Is there a differentiation between the two in terms of the law in South Africa?

Crimen Injuria

Crimen injuria consist of unlawfully and intentionally impairing the dignity or privacy of another person.

Assault

Assault consists of unlawfully and intentionally

applying force to the person of another;
inspiring a belief in another person that force is immediately to be applied to him or her;
Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. This is another form of assault, however, committed with the intention to cause serious bodily injury.

All those protecting Larry just simply fail to understand that he is an image of the brand. The brand in his case is horse racing and where did the event happen? Exactly.

The same would apply if I am owning a restaurant and I get into a tiff with a customer. I am representing my brand therefore I gotta behave accordingly despite the abuse/encouragement/aggravating moment.

I would have been happy for Larry to promise he would never wear that waiter outfit again and let him off. S'truth he reminded me of the many Indian waiters on the terrace at the Beach hotel in Durban back in the day :lol:

To me, Larry has lost it. Simple.
He should have hit him much harder and much more than once.

The fantasy stories had Larry kicking him around Turffontein, throwing him of the decks and sending horses heads to his house

Should put in more cameras to protect the public now. The precedent has been set.Reputations will be tarnished. Another nail in the coffin of a dying sport.
Perhaps the only " hit em hard " that Shaheen Shaw famously quotes is for the punters only.

Other parties directly involved in racing that follow in the footsteps of the official and assault
patrons must also face the music if condoning fighting on course . :evil:

P.S. The other party/punter did not hit em hard so maybe the Dale Carnegie principles of avoiding arguments and fights should be applicable to those in support of physically assaulting patrons on racecourse property with intent of GBH. :whistle:
