I have noticed a mistake before and notified the bookie and received a voucher. I was happy with that

When prices drift you out, you don't need to be notified, because you can take the bet.
But a mistake is just something that needs to be corrected. You don't have to accept 8,000 for your 80,000 car because you left off a zero off the sign. You don't owe anything to the dick who insists that you sell it to him for 8,000 either.
If you have any integrity you would notify someone who has made a mistake, hopefully because you are not a dick. A mistake being a typo or significant enough a difference so you realize it is an error.
Clearly more checks needs to be in place. The person that is monitoring the live in play bets suppose to flag the bet instantaneously when the bet was struck. After the event was complete another final check should have been done as the bet was wagered to win R14 000, that would have raised an alarm.
The Oddsmakers gets it wrong pricing up in the race as Johanm has been pointing out (See Below). Do you notify him ? If they close your account, will you be peeved as you was not stealing but merely taking advantage of one persons mistake in odds making.

I for one cannot wait for a clerk to leave a number out of my pick 6 in error, give me places instead of wins on a horse.. Since this is a two way street.
Please speak more about errors and obvious omissions, kyle is very quiet..
I think we need to query price of oriental tiger on his maiden win, 10/1 into 7/10.. 10/1 must have been a bargain.. damn thing won by 6..

Remember in running betting is totally a different kettle of fish to normal betting...prices fluctuate in in running at a rate where 1/7 could very well be 14/1 in an instant..
I know in soccer it's not as fast as cricket or rugby or tennis...but this is where my grouse lies..and pirates I also have huge respect for you as a racing statesman..but I was on a phone with an operator and wanted say 1/1 on a team...say even 20 000..she puts me on hold and tryst to get authority to lay..in that split instance a goal is scored against the bet I wanted to take..operater comes back..says you got a bet...team you took evens on is now 7/1 depending on what stage the match is....but here's the thing had your team scored and comes into 4/10..bet is declined.....now let's be honest..whose on the receiving end..always the punter..
I think no matter what the mistake or obvious error is in inrunning you just take the good with the bad...it's the nature of gambling..and let me tell you with the percentages that inrunning betting is done in SA...taking 1/7 in Sa..isn't a sure sure thing...because the opposing bet in SA would be 3/1..
Absolute bullocks

You simply cannot trade in south Africa with betting percentages maybe interbet allows you to ask for 12/1 off a team quoted 8/1..and maybe someone sees that you mad and lays that 12;/1 to you and then you arbitrate on a site to get it to 90% ....and make a few rand no matter what the result...too much have to go your way in a match before you beat 100% with local bookies..infact so much has to go right that you convince yourself that you bet can't lose..lol

Just out of interest.
Does each Hollywood have its own price or are they centralized when betting online vs. at their establishment.
i assume online is a national operator and at franchise level the franchisee takes the hit and a % of profits go to national.
i dont care for HW so just asking.

I'm not referring to this specific case but :
WHO DETERMINES WHAT AN "OBVIOUS ERROR' IS ?
Surely this is open to the bookmakers interpretation which is a clear conflict ?
A few examples of stories I have heard over the years about different firms :
1 - a matchbet odds being changed after event from 8-10 to 3-10
2 - a drier horse second run (was backed admittedly on debut but ran 22 lenghts back) cancelled antepost bets after being priced up at 33-1 by earlybird firm.
3 - Jockey falling off and horse being marked up 100-1 next time. Bets amended.
The problem is, it's up to the bookmaker to decide what an obvious error is. As I said I'm not referring to this specific case. Just saying that their are no guidelines to protect the punter.

Saying it's an error is pretty funny, I noticed over the last few months that Hollywood has the shortest prices when compared to other bookies so maybe that's an error as well.
Personally if the bet is struck it should stand and the bookie should bear the cost since it's his stuff up.

Sorry to digress,a query.
In Jan i punted a horse on early betting(about 10 days prior)/final field.
A week later the jock was swopped, and i wanted to cancel my bet.
HW consultant wouldnt accept that as a rationale.
fortunately the horse won!
Is there any clause reguarding jockey reshuffling?
thanks

I think craziest thing of all is that once a bet has been struck, a confirmation e-mail is then sent to my mailbox confirming the "accepted" bet.
The confirmation e-mail is received almost 3 hours after the event was complete.
Oh well, guess I need to take it on the chin. I was at fault...
