would love to hear the clanners views, and Ziets post us something if you can, always appreciate your views as well.
Do we need to create a new topic for this?

Not sure there is such a thing as a banker on Saturday in races 2 to 9 - Its July Day

Definitely not a day to be chasing the exotics - by all means try a few for fun, but your chance in catching the P6 on Saturday is probably not a lot better than winning the Lotto.
So my advice would be to stick to your own selections - they have as much chance as anyone's

On principal I am not playing a Pick 6. Races 4 to 8 are difficult enough, you would think they could have made the Garden Province Race 9 where you can probably get away with a maximum of 3 if not bankering Bela Bela. I know Al Mariachi is short in the betting but in these 2 year old races anything can happen.

Ronald Singh was the first South African of Indian ethnicity to ride in the July. He rode a horse named Heads.

Re: Greyville Saturday 1st July - #DJ17

Very tough card, so much so – I don’t have a best bet on the card and all my bets below are small to medium strikes. If I can break even, I’ll consider it a win. IMO it’s a day to enjoy and back whatever you like regardless of the price - they’ve all come to win. Still the greatest race day IMO even if the fields aren’t the greatest(and they aren’t) but nothing comes close to the build-up, fever etc.
Race 1 – No bet
I’ll go with Silver Class, Leisure Trip and Flying Silver to fight it out. Anything more than 10/1 for Flying Silver I think is worth a speculative bet. Very smart form since relocating to KZN.
Race 2 – No bet
Like most, I do think Head Honcho is the likeliest winner but at 1/1, I’m happy to watch.
Race 3 – The Centenary 16/1
No short priced favourite in the July Consolation this time round. I prefer Crowd Pleaser to Zodiac Ruler because of the weight diff and he comes into this at the top of his game. Will he be as effective over 2200m though? I think if he does then he’ll have a good shout. Others with a good chance are Royal Badge(excellent KZN campaign so far, building up nicely), My World and The Centenary. I think The Centenary at 16/1 offers a nice bit of value. Great run in this race last year.
Race 4 – No bet
Another minefield. I like a few here – Sun on Africa(if he stays) should go very close having run up close to July contender Mr Winsome. Banner Hill must go closer as long as he’s ridden better than last time. And another outsider with a chance is Kinaan – 3rd in the Gold Cup and is slowly coming back to that rating. Tough to narrow it down so no bet.
Race 5 – Green Top 15/4, Desert Rhythm 5/1
I was quite impressed with Green Top’s debut win. May have been flattered by the front two going off too quick but she reeled them in nicely. The break would have done her good – she comes here fresh. Pedigree suggests she should have no problem seeing out the extra 200m and I’m interested to see how she does. Comes in to draw 8 so not too concerning.
I have been waiting to see Desert Rhythm go 1400m ever since her facile win on the Turff inside course. I thought she was very impressive that day and I think she’s better over this distance than sprinting. Question marks over what she beat but the 2nd and 3rd have come out and won. I thought 5/1 was well worth a bet.
Race 6 – Hakeem 4/1, Trojan Harbour 18/1
Hakeem’s run two very good races over the 1400 – looks like he could be wanting further. Seems a big striding horse so I’d like to be him fairly handy where he can use that stride. He hasn’t faced strong fields so this will be a real test and we’ll see if he’s good enough to pull through.
Trojan Harbour I think is slightly overpriced at 18’s. He was very impressive LTO beating the highly regarded pair of Ancestry and Monks Hood. Nasty draw but he has enough gate speed to get over quickly. Must be ridden handy from that draw and I hope he can keep rolling when they turn for home.
The July – Black Arthur 25/1, 20/1, 14/1 and Marinaresco 10/1, 16/1, 18/1
Enough has been written about Black Arthur – whether here on ABC or in the media. This is his target. Has a great draw and a jock hungry to win the big one. I have little doubt he’s a few lengths better than his current 104 rating so for me, he’s got an excellent chance. He’s a horse who doesn’t travel well so GvN will have to get to work on him around the bend. If he finds his finish, I expect him to go very close to winning.
I’m hoping Marinaresco comes to the course in the same mood he was in last year. If so, he’ll make his current odds look a bit silly.
Race 8 – No bet for now
Horse Guards, Attenborough and Angel’s Power must all have strong chances. Even with the weight, I like Attenborough – hoping he drifts a few points at race time.
Race 9 – No bet for now
If Al Mariachi overcomes his draw(which he should) and gets the trip, then he should pull this off. But at 9/10, I’ll certainly be happy watching him try to do so. Plenty of lurkers here if he fails. I think Prince of Kahal and Well Connected could go well from the bunch.
Race 10 – No bet
At first glance, I was on Bela-Bela but at 11/10, I just don’t feel she’s value at that price. I do think she’s got a great chance of winning this, having raced under lights already and comes into this having strong form against males. BUT she’s up against two great fillies in Just Sensual and Gimme Six.
I actually think if you can get around 3/1 – 7/2 Just Sensual(with most going for BB, you just might) race time – that is an excellent price. While I did expect her to win easier LTO, it was her 2nd run after rest so we’ll forgive her. A brilliant filly and she’ll go very close too.
And then Gimme Six has become a favourite of mine. Has fallen in love with Greyville and how can you not love that turn of foot?
Hoping to watch a great race.
Race 11 – no bet
I think Pillar of Hercules and Bishop’s Bounty will fight this out.
Race 12 – Union Jack 12/1, Irish Pride 13/1
Nice handicap to end things. Union Jack has been prepped for this. 3rd run after rest, trainer in top form. Should get an excellent run for your money.
Irish Pride is a favourite of mine, won a few big ones for me. A very consistent performer who will always give off his best. Might be a little too high in the ratings but I’m sure he’ll be competitive here, if taking to the course.
