GC Media Release Tarry Runners 25 JUNE 2008

Sean Tarry is hitting a rich vein of form just 10 days before the Vodacom Durban July in which he has four runners.

Tarry had viewed Buy And Sell as his main runner this year before the draw. He drew 16 while all of his other runners were luckier – Succesful Bidder drew four, Wendywood one and Bound By Honour seven.

However, he said that although initially Buy And Sell’s draw had been a disappointment, the four-year-old had the experienced Felix Coetzee in the saddle and added that in the case of a slow run race his wide draw might help get him into a handy position.

Last season Tarry believed that the gelding would be better as a four-year-old.

Tarry termed Buy And Sell’s last run in the Gold Challenge as “very pleasing”.

He added that the July gallops would be very important in bringing all of his horses to their peak.

Succesful Bidder’s run in the Gold Challenge had also pleased Tarry, as he had run on very well in the straight from a long way back.

Previous to that race, nothing had gone Succesful Bidder’s way in the GommaGomma and in the heavy ground he had been smacked in the eye by a flying clod.

Tarry said that Succesful Bidder had needed to be “freshened up” after that race and he had thus lacked his usual cruising speed in the Gold Challenge.

Succesful Bidder will be ridden by experienced Australian-based jockey Glyn Schofield, who proved himself a top jockey here last year after returning from Hong Kong.

Tarry felt that the six-year-old Jallad gelding’s odds of 50-1 look too big and added.

“He has run one bad race in his career and people seem to have written him off.”

Talking about the three-year-old filly, Wendywood, Tarry said that he had been pleased with her draw of one.

“With her inexperience I am glad she got a draw she will be familiar with.”

The filly was drawn one when coming from way back in a slow run race to win the Woolavington over 2000m at Greyville in her last start.

“She is a very big filly too so will not be knocked about and squeezed out of it on the inside rail,” he added.

Wendywood, who will be ridden by Singapore-based Barend Vorster, has burst into the July picture from nowhere having only made her debut on May 23.

It would be an incredible feat if she were to land the big one but, with the devastating turn of foot she has shown in both her runs, it is not a forlorn hope.

Tarry said that the 1800m of the Jubilee had been too sharp for Bound By Honour in the fast winter going of the Highveld in his last start.

He added that it had been a slow run race so he had been pleased with the performance.

“That race would have brought him on nicely,” he said.

Bound By Honour, who finished a creditable three length fourth in testing going in the GommaGomma over 2000m, will be ridden by champion jockey Mark Khan in the July.

He summed up by saying, “Last year my two had such a perfect preparation that I thought that if I didn’t win it then, it would be a very difficult race to win in the future, but then again we did have some bad luck in the running. So this year obviously I’m hoping for better luck and I’m happy with their draws.”

He mentioned Pocket Power as a danger and respected Anton Marcus’s decision to ride Pick Six. He added that nobody knew whether Dancer’s Daughter would stay.

Tarry concluded by saying that the three-year-olds had all drawn wide and this had affected their chances.

Puffin - was at Greyvile this morning to watch the gallops live. The nodding horse is looking good and all concerned feels that he has a chance. Nice easy gallop. Lots left for race day.

Must admit that my heart and the money is with yours but my head says Buy and Sell.

Good luck BDB. I downloaded the card checked the P6 potential, checked my bank account and decided that it is a minefield. Lairds coupling WWN and Merlene can be beat IMO and Cherise Cherrie is the one that could cause the upset so where do you find a banker?

I hope Bill does you proud again. Will you be here?
