No Jaypegs or Eyeofthetigers here IMO hence the low weights. If Argonaught was here then we would seen a 3 year old shine

I see on the other site The Ringer says Desert Links doesnt deserve his place in the line -up....well the bottom line is that he IS IN.He also says that he will run further back than midfield...he has a short memory with his "champion" Dunford. getting a run and winning.

GC Media Release: Dean Kannemeyer - Tan Can
The three-year-old Silvano colt Tan Can has peaked at the right time and has a definite chance in Saturday’s R3-million, Grade I Vodacom Durban July to be run at Greyville Racecourse in Durban on Saturday.
Trainer Dean Kannemeyer, who has won Africa’s greatest race twice for Fieldspring Racing in the past six years with Dynasty and Eyeofthetiger, was upbeat about the chestnut’s chances after his “excellent” work at Clairwood early on Monday morning.
“I have got him right. He has peaked at the right time and although I will need a bit of luck from the 12 draw, I believe we can stretch them in the finish.”
Kannemeyer said the colt was a late maturer and had never been a good track horse. He had suffered a minor upset in his preparation for the big race but he had been very pleased with his gallop at Greyville last Thursday and he had worked very well since then.
“His work this morning was excellent and I have got him where I want him to be. He has the two races under his belt, at Clairwood and in the Daily News 2000, and he has come right at the right time.”
Kannemeyer said Russian Sage was a very good horse and had it not been for his wide draw, he would have seen the Jallad colt as the horse to beat. Tan Can had run a neck second to Russian Sage in the Bloodstock SA Cape Derby and on that occasion Tan Can had been catching Russian Sage with every stride. He had run on behind Russian Sage in the Daily News 2000 after being squeezed and having to shift.
“We have the better draw on Saturday and a slight weight advantage and the extra 200m of this race will be right up his street.
“This is an open race and I am going to need some luck from the 12 draw. I would have preferred a draw around six but I think we have a good chance and will be right there at the finish.”

Andrew Kirsten - Catmandu
Andre Kirsten believes Catmandu is the best horse he has ever trained and is confident of his chances in the R3 million Vodacom Durban July to be run at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday.
Catmandu was rated a 150-1 chance when the ante-post betting on the big race opened after the first nominations but is now as short as 14-1.
The grounds for his initial long price must surely have been that he would not see out the 2200m trip as the four-year-old gelding by Makaarem went over further than 1200m for the first time in his 13th start.
However, Kirsten explained, “He always showed that he would go further. I thought he would see out a mile but when we put him over that trip he did it easily.”
That first attempt over 1600m was also the first time he had raced at Greyville and he produced a devastating finish from the tail of the field to get up on the line.
The Vaal trainer continued, “No, this horse would go the Gold Cup distance. He relaxes himself as he drops the bit until asked for his effort. He starts a bit slowly over the first 100m but then has that blistering turn of foot in the straight. I don’t mind how far back he will have to come from as the false rail will be at ten metres and they will fan out. The gaps will open.”
Kirsten is not worried about his wide draw of 15 either.
“I am actually glad that he drew out wide,” he said. “All the pace in the race this year is on the outside so the scrimmaging will be on the inside. With our draw we will avoid it.”
He added, “This horse broke a race record at Clairwood over 1200m and stays 2200m easily. He is a special horse. I think he just needs luck in running and is the one to beat.”
Catmandu has raced four times in Durban for three victories and a short-head defeat.
The defeat came in his last start when he flew from the back as usual to lose by a short-head to the Mike Bass-trained River Jetez.
In the July Catmandu will be 1kg better off with River Jetez as compared to the Astrapak and yet the latter has been backed into 7-1 joint second favourite.
Kirsten said, “He is good wherever he goes but at the coast he seems even better. He also loves Greyville. He suits the course with that turn of foot he has.”
Catmandu has finished his preparation for the race and will now just be kept ticking over.
His final pacework was on Monday when doing his July gallop and he was seen on television to be stretching out very nicely.
“He put in exceptional work and I think it was one of the best July gallops,” said Kirsten.
Deon Sampson, who is now in Mauritius, has been doing the workriding on Catmandu but Stuart Randolph, who has ridden him in his last four starts, will ride him in the big race.
Catmandu is the first horse Kirsten has ever nominated for the July.
“Every trainer tries to win the July and it would be a great honour if I could win it with my first runner,” he said.
Catmandu will travel down on Thursday and will be stabled at Clairwood.

Puffin - all the best for saturday - I still believe that some are under estimating Links. He is proven as a stayer and if horses get tired he might just find himself in front over the last 50 meters. Dont forget your pep talk again. Go Greg.

Collected my tickets from the Bluff today - Very nice Tote - Cannot believe these exist. Well done to whoever was responsible for that one. I like the interactive touchscreen. Lets hope that this is a model forothers to follow. They should set standards for these places.
Back to the July: 4 Sleeps left - Pick 6 seems impossible PA too. Reckon the focus must be on the uartets in the main race.
No 3 year olds for me: I trust Weichongs instincts and will give Dancer Daughter a miss and Recon shes on Fire will finish in Front of DD and in the quartet. Desert Links to leave some experts red faced with embarasment, Buy and Sell in the first 3 or the jockey fell off at the start, Pocket Power to perform like the champ he is and Hunting Tower to show superman that he made the wrong choice. Box 5 and hope like hell.
